What years specifically does the 4.0 v6 have head gasket leaks? I have read 2003-2005. Is this documented anywhere? Can anyone with a high mileage 2006 comment and confirm they are golden? I am looking at a 2006 later today and want to be sure I am in the clear!

I’m sure you would be fine with an 06. I’m not sure that the 03-05 have a huge problem with head gaskets. I’ve heard of 03-05 going high miles with no problems and I’ve heard of others that haven’t. I think it’s hit or miss. However you see it the problem was fixed by 06.

OK guys, the vehicle I am looking at was manufactured 10/11/05. Was this after the design correction?

Its a 2006 to clarify according to vin/emission label. The manufacturer date on the door/Carfax is 10/11/05.

2006 4runner here, just started having intermittent cylinder 6 misfire on startup. Shaking goes away after a few seconds and doesn’t always throw a code. 200,600 miles
