    All,

I did read some of the posts on shift knobs but I still haven't found a broad selection of choices. I noticed that my OEM knob has shifted slightly to the right so I twisted it gently back to the left but it was not as firm in place as when I bought the vehicle. I'm guess that the threads inside the shifter are stripped.

So, I decided to experiment with the knob, in order to make it tighter, by twisting the knob clockwise a couple rotations. It did NOT make the shifter any tighter (perhaps lower - not sure - I'll need to measure). After that experiment I'm now convinced the OEM shift knob threads are stripped inside.

Now I'm thinking about replacing the OEM knob with a new knob. There are just so many choices out there, I thought the family here might be able to suggest some ideas. NOTE - just looking to replace the knob (no boot). Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Here is one in particular I like: https://yotaxpedition.com/products/...4runner-2010-2023?_pos=2&_sid=744d1ad41&_ss=r

    Thanks again!
    JB

I ended up with a wooden ball knob after trying other custom options. It’s ends up being the perfect size and height, and it makes it easier to shift into 4lo without accidentally knocking it out of D with your forearm. I also painted a wood ball gray with krylon, but like the feel of the one I finished using tung oil better. You can also find ball knobs made of bake-light type materials as well.

I also have the Teton knob on my transfer case, because I got it free (very very nice, but so damn expensive). IMG_6892.jpg

Unfortunately, I recently found out that the Teton knob seized onto the shaft. Took the grub screw out and even tried to get it off with vice grips and clamps holding the shaft under the console, but mangled up the black metal sleeve that’s vulcanized to the shift shaft. So now it’s permanent, or I take a hacksaw to it.

Thank you! I like both of those products. The Ellis is SOLD OUT and the Trailmade is $219! Ouch. But despite the cost the Trailmade does seem super nice. Hmmm...

    Thanks for the response.

Yes indeed, that's the company my build guy at Roam Overland Outfitters suggested. Probably go with this one but the Trailmade (despite the cost) is very nice.

Thanks for the valuable input. Yeah that would be bad if I wanted to remove it. I was actually leaning towards the Teton, but..... maybe not...

Hey, sorry about that. Just trying to choose a new shift knob. I believe I stripped the plastic on the inside by turning it clockwise too much trying to get it tighter on the shaft. So now, no matter which way you turn it, it's a bit loose.
