What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Whats needed to make the cig lighters fulltime? Hate notw being able to charge my phone while parked

Basically, as far as just getting the cig plug to be full time, I used an Add-a-Circuit and plugged it into an unused spot on the driver kick panel fuse box.

Used a multi-meter to find one that was always hot.
Then just cut the positive wire at the cig plug, and connect the one from the Add-a-Circuit.
I used the acc. power that was going to the cig plug to connect to the switch I added.
One position of the switch sends acc. power to that USB/volt meter, and other switch position sends full time power to it.
But again, if all you want to do it make that cig plug always hot, just use the add-a-circuit and connect it.

 

Well that's the easy part . I would like to see a writeup so you can show us all the other parts you used, the plate to mount the plugs, wiring the voltmeter, how you pulled the dash apart, specific part numbers, etc, etc, etc... But it's ok if you don't want to. I think stuff like this needs catalogued. It's just good information to have on the site.

I didnt think people would be this interested in this, and that similar had probably been done on here.
I should have made a video on it, I have some other mods planned, so I will video those, and try to go back over this one as well.
The plate I designed and cut out on my laser engraver/cutter.

I THINK I saw a post on there somewhere, but cant find it now.
If they are all fed off the same circuit slot on the fuse block then that might not be tough to do.
I just didnt want them all hot, just that one in front, and I will be running full time hot to the rear and adding one on the driver side, for a fridge.

 

You will want to add a switch to that USB charger !!!
They will draw some small amount of power even when nothing is plugged into them usually.
It might take it a while to drain a battery,, but it can.

 

No matter what battery you have, I dont like the idea of something being able to pull power when not in use.
I would think it would days days, weeks to drain it maybe,, but, it can.
A switch inline with it would be fine for something like a USB charger.
Relays are really only needed for things drawing quite a few amps, like light bars, most switches can handle several amps.

 

Quick question, i noticed when i press the brakes i get a squish sound, do i need to bleed my brakes or is that normal? I depress my brakes like an inch and a half before ot slows any

 

Should probly check your brake fluid level.

Considering doing something. Need opinions first. So alot of people add CAI more for sound than the negligible gains of power. On my old chevy i just took off the intake resinator and put a 3 inch rubber pipe cap on it wjth a hose clamp. I feel like i could do the same to the 4runner. assuming those are in fact resonators. Goals being nicer intake sound for 10 bucks. Thoughts?

 

Saw the KDSS lean fix in here. Is it easy to do or would it just be better to throw a couple 1/4" spacers on the passenger side and not worry about it?

Yes it's been done using metal fence post caps. The smaller resonator has a vacuum line going to your fuel pressure regulator. That has to be plumbed in one way or another. Maybe just remove the larger one, leave the small one with the vacuum line?

 

Noticed that. They are combined into one peice of plastic. Curious hpw much louder ot even os

 

They are but it looks like the small bulb and large bulb are independent meaning you could cut the plastic between them and separate them. I never looked that close though so I may be wrong.

 

After playing in the mud this weekend finally got around to cleaning her up.

 

Is this permanent or just a temporary fix?

Noob dude from KC here. Threw on some boards tonight. Had to go to dealer anyway so they let snap some quick pics while I was there.

These are the iBoards. Pretty cheap in my opinion. I'm never going to climb up the side of the Grand Canyon in this thing so I'm fine with some easy to throw on boards, but these are pretty thin. Thinking they will eventually bend or warp. Got them through walmart.com so I can just return them to the store if I decide they suck as much as I am thinking they might.

 

You can get OEM steps for about 100 bucks, people take them off pretty much every day. I would return that junk and go with OEM if you feel you must have steps.

 

Looks good. How is the dash kit? Does it feel as high of quality as the stock dash or is it flimsy. Did you paint it yourself?

 

We'll see, I've got 90 days to return them. Haven't really seen any OEMs that I really like either, I'll keep my eye out though. Mostly just considering these costume jewelry. Sliders are way overkill for what I'm ever going to do(curb hopping at the stadium or speedway) and the steps are so my elderly mom can get in easier if I ever need to take her anywhere.
