It's definitely silly to complain about the fuel economy, considering the type of vehicle this is. And, the fuel economy has always been shitty on BOF 4WD SUV's.

But, there's nothing wrong with doing what you can, within reason, to get the best fuel economy possible. I drive slow when I'm not in a hurry. And, I take off my roof rack whenever I know I won't need it for awhile.

Yep, it also grinds me gears whenever fuel economy comes up and the typical response is "buy a prius" or "it's going to be bad"

Folks just trying to make the most of what they got whether by savings or range.

For "bad" fuel economy it's sure better than a Sequoia and some full-sizers.

I'm not going to take a Prius down a fire road and people aren't expecting magical numbers.

The current state of TV commercials...... I am done with all of the medicinal advertisements to begin with.

Then when the local news ends we here, "We hear you and are all in this together." After watching 30 minutes of the news we are all magically in this together? Should be good night and every person for themselves..

"AI" is such a broad term but I'll assign it to the current crop of generative and large-language models.

They're great for very specific things (and there's plenty of other machine learning things that are pretty cool but that's all been rolled into the buzzword "AI"), but they're being shoehorned into everything because everyone's afraid of FOMO, not looking high tech, etc. to get onto this dead-end technology (referring specifically to LLMs) and I despise it.

No, I don't want to pollute Memphis more, waste clean water because nobody wants to bother paying for a closed cooling loop at datacenters or burn however much watts just because I was curious about how many amps I can shove through a wire. (The "answer" was that 22 gauge copper wire can safely handle 551 amps btw)

I agree. I feel like the biggest problem with AI right now is it's trying to be forced into a "jack of all trades" role, where it can or should be as smart as the average bear (or Joe, which may not be a high water mark).

I am interested in seeing it developed in the robotics role, though. Have it focus on specific tasks, suck as housekeeping. I would really like a Rosie around

The biggest problem with AI that I see is that AI only knows what has already been posted by humans and now other AIs on the internet and repeats what it has found on any given subject/question, if there's enough false info on any given subject/question posted on the internet AI with use that info as a true answer even though it's entirely wrong, then other AIs will use that answer on future inquiries and the preverbal false snowball is getting bigger and bigger.

My gears are regularly ground by the dependency on batteries. I’m not talking about the cell phone. I’ve accepted my servitude to the maintenance of my phone’s charge. It’s all the other stuff. For example, I received a nice digital torque wrench as a birthday present. It’s beautiful. But it may go months between uses, and half the time I pick it up the battery is dead. Similar story with the digital calipers. I have divested myself of all the battery operated crap. I have dial calipers in standard, metric and 64ths. The other issue is tools destroyed by leaking batteries.

You know what else I hate? EDC flashlights that don’t have a removable battery. Because when you find out the battery is dead is when you need it and go to turn it on. Yes, the lights with the lipo batteries can be smaller and brighter than those with aaa or aa batteries. But so what if it doesn’t work when you need it?

Fenix makes some smaller flashlights that have removable batteries. You can keep a spare fully charged if you don't mind the extra cost.

Brother, I'm with you on this one. My torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers both inside and outside measuring are all old-fashioned mechanical with no batteries required.

As for flashlights - hand held or headlights, I use Fenix lights. Top quality, light weight lighting with removable and rechargeable lithium batteries.

Is there one you carry on you every day in your pocket?

For several years I carried a Surefire Titan AAA flashlight. It was the best AAA option in its day. Nowadays ins not considered very bright. I have a no-name light now. Smaller and brighter than the Surefire. But USB only. I’ve grown to hate it.

I have a Fenix WT-20R. My most useful light. But not pocketable. It has a proprietary lithium battery but will take AAs too.

I have a Fenix PD36R in both of my trucks as well as in everyday use at work. It fits in a pocket very nicely. I also keep the HM50R headlights in my trucks, and use it daily at work. So I have three of each and spare batteries for each.

In the past I used streamlight products, but found they were cheaply made and did not stand up to industrial daily / all day usage. Before that (years ago) the Maglights ruled.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
This has been grinding my gears a lot lately.

    1) I am sitting behind a car waiting to turn right and that car waits for ALL FUCKING LANES to be clear before pulling out. They forget that they are supposed to turn into the closest lane. But most people turn right into the middle lane or jump into the far left lane. If you need to use the inside lane to pull out, then start to immediately get over into the lane you want. I see this happen a lot in downtown Dallas.

    2) Dual turn lanes. I'm always very cautious around these because a lot of people don't stay in their lane. Either the outside person tries to cut into the inside lane or the inside lane swings wide and pushes the outside drive out of their lane.

And a 3 cell with "D" batteries at that.

I grab mine on occasion when home defense might be needed. Here in commifornia, reaching for a firearm is frowned upon under most circumstances - and one can be prosecuted for using a firearm for defense if the legal system doesn't think that you were in "enough" danger.
