Plenty of us haul our hounds so here are some things I've done with my '07 that others may be able to use. Please post your own setups, gear, and mods so we can all benefit.

Rear seat protection - Amazon link to show the product but the one I bought shows as no longer available. There are similar ones available. Things I like about this one are:
    - Anchors (straps around headrests and corners of rear seat + rod that goes between the seat top & bottom)
    - Zipper openings for seat belts if needed.
    - Heavy duty - stands up to nails that need clipping
    - Easy to care for - remove, brush off, wash, hang to dry, reinstall

    Adjustable seat-back fan
    - this attaches easily to the headrest posts and features a rotary switch that works like the dash dimmer in that you dial up the fan speed you want. It's especially useful if you have two dogs b/c the fans can be independently aimed. I installed a 12V plug on the back of my console but you can plug it in wherever. Switch is attached with Velcro for easy access.

"Seat belts" that attach to their harness with a carabiner that has the barrel thing to keep it from coming undone. Other end either clips to the baby seat anchors or snaps into the female seat belt buckle. We use the anchors b/c the dogs don't get tangled as easily with the strap up higher.

Window screens help keep the pups out of direct sunlight. I only use one b/c the other dog likes to look out the window. I originally bought them for car camping but they work well for this too. They go through the car wash with no problem.

Best thing I got was Canvasback door covers. They drool when they look out the windows and the saliva can stain the softex. One day I'll get the rear cover that goes over the sides too.

I also use the rear seat protector/ hammock thing, but lay it flat since we have the seats folded down.

On our last trip, he sat on top of the bin so he can see out the window better. Lol. 20250801_090915.jpg

And Jack has no room at all in the 3rd gen. He's cool with cramming himself in wherever he can. FB_IMG_1754684279746.jpg

That's lot of gear. I doubt my roof box can carry that much of gear. I can only carry 3 check-in bags and couple of shopping bags in my Thule box, while my doggo takes the entire cargo area. With 4 people + dog + cargo-> my 5th gen was at 5880lbs.

That was a lot of gear. It was 2 people and 2 dogs. We stayed at a campground for 4 nights and did some fishing. After that we continued north and went on a 2 night backpacking trip.
So we had a ton of stuff with us.
    Not normally like that.

On my 5th gen I have a hitch basket that can go on the front or rear sometimes. And sometimes the big Mac on the roof.
When we sleep inside the vehicle I move alot of stuff to the roof20250623_113631.jpg FB_IMG_1728916566377.jpg
