Any TRD Pro owners out there with Bilstein 6112s on their vehicle?

I have a 2019 TRD Pro. Still has the 'factory' Fox shocks. The shocks are worn out and I would like to replace the shocks. I was hoping to use Bilstein 6112 on the front and 5160 on the rear because I want a less bouncy setup and because they are about half the cost.

Questions I am trying to figure out:

1. I'm trying to figure out the right circlip setup on the 6112s to maintain the factory lift height - I don't want more lift than it already has. I found this chart in another post. It is odd in that for the TRD Pro it says to use 1 higher setting on the driver side than for the other trims. Makes no sense ... the rest of the vehicle is the same. Additionally, it seems to suggest it will add another half-inch lift to the front. The 2019 Pro already has a 1" lift, and adding another 0.5 would eliminate any rake which is not what I want. Anyone out there done this on their vehicle and how did it turn out?
2. If I end up going this route, I think I can just keep the rear springs - correct?

 

You should probably call Bilstein and ask them. It seems weird for 1" of lift on your Pro to set at 6 and 3 (according to the chart). My 2019 TRP ORP with 6112's is set at 6 and 4 for about 2" of lift. The difference of the circlip settings is to account for the drivers side lean. Not sure why the Pro has more difference in the circlip settings compared to the others.

 

If you can live without your truck for a couple of weeks, you can send your shocks to Fox and have them rebuilt cheaper than you can buy new shocks.

 

Pro is already 1” higher than other trims which is why clips settings are different.

 

I'm guessing the difference in circlips is if you're re-using the TRD Pro spring???

 

The 6112’s springs are flat ground. I think the spring circlip location is with Bilstein springs and no other manufacturer. Are the fox springs made the same as the Bilsteins?

I think what you are reading in the chart for the TRD pro is the setting for increased height over the 1” original pro height!

 

are you using your old springs with the 6112s or using Bilstein springs with the 6112s?

 

I was actually wondering the same since I'm getting this clunking noise and I really think it's the Fox shock. Even though mine as suppose to be revised for 2021, others have stated even on the newer Pro's they still faced the same issues with these shocks.

 

Use setting #4/1 if you want to maintain your current ride height. Setting #4/1 will not remove your rake. 4Runners have over 2" of rake from the factory, TRD Pro's barely less than 2".

Any 14" flat ground spring with the correct inner diameter will work (on a 6112), but stick with Bilstein if you're looking for a general spring. Stick with the lightest spring rate you can get (600). The higher spring rates will ride like a wagon.

You can keep your rear springs.

@PVT Pablo I’m going to buy strut/shocks already assembled, so it will be the Bilsteins. None of the online vendors seem to give specs for the spring. Example. Or do you know a local place that you’d recommend? Someone mentioned Mule, but I know nothing about them.

I know there's a few online vendors that let you select the spring when assembling. I used Mudify a few months ago and the process was super easy.

The only place locally I've used is the Overland Truck Store in Bremerton. They are knowledgeable and competent.

 

Give Shock Surplus a call. IIRC, they have 600# springs on standard 6112’s and also different # is desired.
I don’t like assemblied units because they don’t use OEM top hat parts.
Just my pet peeve, I’ve had non OEM top hats on Eibachs make noise.

 

Wheelers Off road has 6112's on sale right now and free shipping. Ends tomorrow the 24th. 706$ assembled with Bilstien 600 lb. front springs. Hard to beat that.

Out of curiosity, how did they make noise? What did it sound like?

 

Not a thud but a metal click when coming on a curb or off. It was the top hat assembly they use. They replaced them under warranty.
And then I replaced them with 6112/5160 setup with OEM top hat hardware and was quiet like on my 2014!

 

This gets more complicated the more I ask questions ... did you have to add the OEM top hat or did someone do that for you?

 

Measured everything today. Here is where we end up if the charts are accurate. There is a 1/4 inch lean. I wonder if #4/#1 is an over correction.

But now I'm more concerned about the top hat ...

 

I did not purchase assembled 6112’s. I purchased OEM top hats and needed hardware and the 6112 coilovers and had them assembled and installed.

 

Hi @Saker - I’m ordering parts and figured I might as well go this route. Besides the top hats, what did you need to order from Toyota? 6 and 8-12?

And since I’m new to this, should I be doing the bushings etc at this point too?

 

thing is by removing the fox struts youre also removing the 1" pro lift. On my SR% i started with 4/2 1.1 and ended up with more like 1.5". And then went down to 3/1 and its 1".

The top nut is going to come with the 6112. So one doesn’t need to purchase #6
One will need of each #’s 8,9,10,11&12. That’s it.

This is my parts list when I did my original install on my 2014. The same parts were purchased when I installed 6112’s on my 2021.
The part numbers should be the same. There are some bushings in the list if these are what you are referring too.
