We just bought a new to us ‘24 TRD Pro.
I wanted to see what other folks experience with the Lane Change Assist is.
The 4Runner doesn’t seem very sensitive when alerting to being on/over the lines. I also don’t pick up on any steering assist to pull the car back into its lane. Does the 4Runner even have that steering assist function? Maybe it’s just the audible alert?
For comparison we also have a ‘21 Lexus ES which is fairly sensitive to the lane change warnings and it also gently steers back into the lane so I was expecting similar of the 4Runner. Maybe it does do this, and I just couldn’t find the the setting to adjust?

^The '24 4Runner has hydraulic power steering designed at the turn of the century. There's no lane keep/trace assist, just an audible alert using the windshield camera. You can adjust the alert sensitivity through the gauge cluster center screen menus.

Upgrade to a '25 with electric power steering if you want the car to steer for you.

I have a 2022 SR5P 4WD and I find the sensitivity to be just fine. It sounds when I am about a foot, maybe a little less, from lane markers.

I don't use mine, both of our Rav4's have it, my daughter uses hers, my wife doesn't.

Is the 25 an upgrade? Researching the 6th gen is why I purchased my 5th gen.

Yep, no assist, just an alert.

The 6th gen is a big difference, whether it’s an “upgrade” is really up to your taste, priorities and where you’re coming from. Toyota will say it is, I’d say it’s probably a plus for the average buyer but it’ll vary.

I like the looks on 3 sides, not so much the rear end, less room in the second row and shorter cargo area are a minus and the yet to be proven cylinder turbo plus the huge price increase are the reasons I went with the 5th gen, no regrets.

25 is an upgrade for most people: more torque, better fuel economy, better handling, tech from this decade, and reliability fixes for common 5th gen time bombs (steering rack, KDSS, XREAS, SAIS...). However, this forum has people adding music CD players to the glovebox and worrying about the hood insulator wetting from rain...

In the early 2010's, the price of a 4Runner was out of my price range, and the 4Runner was definitely an upgrade from a Tacoma. I had a couple used 2nd gen Tacomas (05/06) before I bit the bullet and bought a new one in 2013 by selling a Jeep and the '05 Tacoma. Then in 2019, the stars aligned once more to allow me to buy a new 4Runner Off Road by selling another Jeep and my 2013 Tacoma with almost no miles on either one, and I was thrilled then. I knew then it would most likely be my last new vehicle purchase since I was in my mid-60's. Now at 71 and with retirement looming at the end of 2025, there's a snowball's chance in hell I would ever get a new 4Runner, no matter how appealing the 'upgrades' are. I will take my 5th gen relic to the grave, most likely, and be happy to do so. BTW, mine came with a CD player from the factory!!

^Seems Toyota was correct to design a 6th gen that doesn't appeal to you.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Like the others have said, the only "assisting" your 4Runner will do is beep at you. That's if you haven't turned off that feature. I did. I had (for 2 months) a 2023 Hyundai Sonata. It had the Lane Change Assist and all the other nannies.

One day while driving home from work I took my exit off the highway. The Sonata couldn't tell there weren't lane markers and the steering wheel started to fight me and tried to keep me in the lane instead of letting me exit. When I got home I read up and tried to turn that feature off for good, only to find out that I couldn't.

It's one thing to have all the nannies and safety stuff in a car, but don't force it on me. Let me decide what I want and don't want. I am so glad my 4Runner doesn't do that. If it did, I would sell it quicker than a hiccup.

I have his feature on my RAV and I HATE it. The steering correction is downright dangerous, I don’t understand why the manufacturers think this kind of aid is necessary.

If you can’t keep your rig in the lane, you shouldn’t be driving. This stuff only promotes distracted driving, IMO. Glad the 4R has no assist, just beeps.

    Triggered!!!!

Imagine getting a distracting text while playing with that little steering wheel. Remind me never to be downhill of one of these things.

Customers would be better off if Land Rover started developing new tech that allows them to last more than two weeks before breaking down.

If you turn lane assist on and swipe the cluster screen to the right screen it will show the lines + the front end of the 4R. It's the coolest screen. I'm bummed it doesn't show my hood scoop.
