Before buying my current 4Runner, I plugged in the same tools in the used car lot to make sure it had completed all the drive monitors and had no pending codes.

I bought a Launch X431 a little while ago but haven't used it yet.

    Scanguage 2.
I used to keep it plugin all the time but now I plug in only when needed. I think it was "CarWizard" video that he said things like scanners, insurance devices, etc could damage ecu. (Can dig in if needed). I believe devices like Scanguage 2 have very low draw vs bluetooth/wifi scan devices or devices with bigger & color screens.

It was the Royalty auto services that discussed about these OBD devices could cause problems. So now I don't keep my scanguage 2 plugged all the time even though it had a tiny low res, less bright screen.

OBD LINK MX, It does so much more than a scan gauge, and it's a legit diag tool with all the different required verhicle software pacs included.

I think you are right. It has more functionality than the Scangauge.

I am into data and being in tune with my unit so I am trying the OBDLinkMX+, seems like a nice little gadget. Good thing here is that you don't have to have a cable going around like the Scangauge. It is Bluetooth and you can use your phone or an old tablet. I elected to use an old phone. Seems like it has a bunch more choices and even functions to enable/disable things. My interest have always been around Boost psi, torque, engine and tranny temps. And of course clearing codes when they show up or understanding exactly what the issues are.

Its a 4Runner, not a spaceship. Why would anyone need to monitor those things all the time?

Some of us are pushing a bit harder these vehicles. Towing, off-roading, driving long distances in one go, etc..etc. So the gauges help us be in "tune" with what's happening in real time with the vehicle and if something was to go wrong and you are mechanically inclined, you could fix it or know right away what the issues are. I also run a supercharger which adds at times a bit more "excitement". :burnrubber:

Kinda agreed here on the excess screens.. but the ODBLinnk is an amazing ~50-60$ tool that can be used on all your vehicles.. Use it to scan for codes, get your fuel data that you need, etc, charts and live monitoring and all bluetooth/wifi depending on the device you buy (and sometimes phone dependent).

Here is an example on when these tools come handy. I got a P0300 the other day because of running bad gas and who knows what other things....but the scanner got me out the error mode. Problem solved.

Not all the time. But knowing my tire temp and air pressure has been useful as well as other temps when I'm off roading. I also had a instance where i had to clear a code to at least get to a place i could better diagnose an issue. Pure gold!

Lucky Doc didn't listen to others saying his DeLorean wasn't a time machine.

yes, the data that is available on these things is pretty useful.

I played with the OBDLinkMX+ yesterday and you can even disable a bunch of stuff the dealer won't let you touch. Obviously, you can't mess with safety features and the like, but you can certainly do more with this tool than the scangauge. I'm sold this seems like a better tool, only issue is the interface. I would probaby need a bigger tablet or use the console or something to see things better. The phone is just too small for old eyes.

:gossip: I don't know that I buy that number directly at face value. I guess it is possible because Maggie says you can get up to 7psi with the SC, so that plus atmospheric pressure and some losses thru the intake can probably get you up there to these figures.

I have been wanting to Dyno this thing PROPERLY after I got the OTT tune. Don't ask me about my MPG though, it is Horrible to say the least.

I would think the stock internals would look like a jigsaw puzzle with that much boost. Could be measuring vacuum. My boost/vacuum gauge reads 5lbs boost at WOT, which makes sense to me being the Maggie is set up for a factory add on.

Kenwood DMX, they have a few options like the 1057XR or DNR. Couple it with iDatalink Maestro and its a fully integrated peace of technology. Music sounds awesome from it too. lol

Everyday use Scangauge 3 mounted on my windshield, scanner autel mp900… if I really need to dig into something, but have contemplating on upgrading soon since I have a few friends that want key fobs made, and I can potentially make some money, or pay for the tool itself

A large portion of forum members here are 4R hypochondriacs. Every little click or vibration is then matched to an OBD2 parameter value changing.

All Scangauge 3 is read can bus. It doesn’t send codes to it, and as long as you don’t “drive and delete codes” or “scan while driving” I’ve never had an issue with my SC3. I’ve used it in 3 different vehicles over 125k miles.

I plug it in before the vehicle is turned on, and take it out of the obd2 port when the vehicle is complete off and displays no data on the screen. I think if SC3 was created weird problems like say the pedal commander, that would be different.

you can even email the team at Scangauge, and ask. Mention Ron, the creator, and they will give you an explanation on how it works and it’s safe.
