    So,

I just installed the alpharex LUXX on 5th gen and was incredibly disappointed at the drl brightness. From anything but the front facing direction of the truck, it’s barely visible. I’ve switched between the white and amber with no improvement. You can’t even see the drl turn signal function during the day if you’re at any kind of a side view.

That being said, are Morimotos any better? I bought these with the intention of having amber being the accent color with my ss3 backlight fogs.

I have not owned alpharex headlights so I can’t speak on brightness but I can speak on the morimotos. I installed the new XB evo headlights from morimoto back in November, and so far loved them. The only issue I have had with them is sometimes the DRLs decide to not match(one amber one white). After turning ignition off and on again they match(rarely occurs). I still don’t know how to tag or refer other posts but I had a more in depth explanation.

How are they during the day though? At night they are visible well enough but during the day it’s kind of pointless

The XB's are very very bright. I waited a while to pull the trigger because I had OEM LED's and didn't think it was worth the money but man I wish I bought them sooner. They change the look and DRL is bright!

During the day they are very bright and at night. The red drivers that boost light output have insanely bright high beams. If you want the very bright DRL that can either be all white or amber it might be worth the money. They also come with the defroster setting but only work below 40 F or something.

I got the morimoto's on the 4R no issues with the DRL brightness. I just got the new ones on the taco as well. Very nice product only issue for me is price point. :spending:

You're are the XB's aren't they? The Evo series is even brighter.

How is the backlight function of the fogs during the day? I haven't seen any daytime pics of them. We are looking at getting them for ours.

Also curious about the backlight function, and can you advise how you wired them?

Yes, the ones I have on the 4R are the older version.

Here you go. One in broad daylight but shaded. Other one pointing directly into the setting sun.
I also have the SS3's, which are a lot more of a yellow than amber compared to the Morimoto's DRL's

My god it’s comically better. You can’t even see the alpharex at a slight damn angle, let alone from the side like that. That’s really disappointing. I’ll run these for a bit until I see morimotos on sale and jump on them. So….so lame. Too bad I can’t return them for just being shit.

Honestly, I’m like 90% liking them. The best option I’ve seen so far is T-taping them into the green white leading into your lowbeams.
I do want to see if there’s a better option those since that requires your parking light to be operating. That means your dash lights are dimmed.

As of now I essentially run the backlight st night and don’t even turn the fogs on unless I need them.

The backlight is amber and matches the drl and side marker tone.

I can take a day pic tomorrow. They are pretty decent and have the same color and brightness as a drl or your side markers. I just want to wire them differently.

Im not sure if you have a switch panel or not but I wired mine directly to that and just hit the button when I want to turn the backlight on. I get weirded out by wire taps and stuff.

I have the XB's, amber DRL, and they are very bright. The biggest reason I decided to spend the extra money on the Morimotos is because of the 5 year warranty. Alpharex only has a 2 year.

Thanks. I have a 2021 with the halogen high beam/DRL and was thinking of placing the T-tap on that harness. I need to verify with Diode Dynamics if the PWM function will mess with the backlight.

Thry did a showdown a while back on all headlights. Youtube lightwerkz alpharex performed the worst out of all. I had a set of alpharex and they was terrible. I now have xb evo.

I forgot I took this night pic. I think this is parking lights off so they do dim a little bit but it isn't much when you have the parking lamps on.
