My left rear light is cracked and I need to replace it. I'm thinking one of the cheaper ways is to buy one from someone who got aftermarket lights and wants to sell the originals. But... when I found the light on a wholesale site, it looks like it comes with a gasket and it implies that the gasket can't be reused or reinstalled. Can anyone confirm this?

I don’t know why it cannot be reused. When I replaced mine with aftermarket assemblies, upon removing the OEM assemblies, they were fine.

The gasket is adhesive backed foam. It should be considered single-use only. Toyota sells replacement gaskets. $15 apiece online, $21 at the dealer parts counter. LH and RH are different P/Ns:

Or just buy a new aftermarket tail light for $60 and it comes with a gasket  (P/N is for LH, despite the photo)https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=16646733&cc=3307198&pt=807&jsn=539&optionchoice=0-0-0-1

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I'm not sure why you would think that.

I have aftermarket lights and I sold my OEM's to someone on this site. He said he installed them the day they arrived and confirmed they worked without any issues. Believe me, if it needed a seal or whatever....dude would'd spoken up and griped to me about it.

Dude tell me about it. I’ve never heard of anyone having any issues putting new ones in. That’s why it threw me for a loop. If it weren’t in the picture I’d have never guessed it.
