Good point on the breather! That would be something to check right away. If it happens to be clogged, unclogging might reduce or maybe eliminate the leak.

Checked the breather, it moves up and down, spins freely, is that a good test?

Any benefit with hitting it with brake clean or throttle body cleaner?

Called a few Toyota and Lexus dealers, the breather (part number: 90930-03211) is on back order with no ETA. A tad bit reluctant to interact with a 9 year old plastic part without having a spare to replace it with.

Any instructions on removing / replacing this part? I see lots of rear dif breather video's but nothing for trans breather.

What about replacing the Toyota one for DIY one by adding tubing and installing another filter? I did this when i replaced the Toyota Secondary Air Injection filter, removed the original foam and installed a K&N one.

I am monitoring the oil, its next to non around that bolt and my last drive was one hour of busy city driving.

I just remembered something, when starting the drain and fill, i drained the ATF (got about 3 quarts) only to find out the incorrect washers had been supplied. I left the truck standing overnight until i was able to get the correct crush washers. When i undid the drain bolt to install the correct washer i got another 2 cups, making 3 quarts 2 cups total removed.

When refilling and doing the level check, i noticed that it gave a flow of oil, then lots of trapped air came out, then the trickle. I don't remember having air trapped last time.

In total i refilled the trans 3 quarts and 2 cups as i kept the old bottles and completed the level check procedure at 104F.

Did me leaving standing it overnight having drained the fluid cause any issues or air blocks?

So you got spurting from the standpipe? I wouldn’t think it’s trapped air, so to speak. The standpipe sticks up into the pan like a snorkel, and the correct level is when the top of the snorkel is right at the surface of the pool of fluid. I would imagine the spurting is just maybe random circulation of oil into the pan? Personally I wouldn’t worry about it. Has it been driving fine?

Yeah, driving fine, i do feel a bump into 1st sometimes when slowing to a stop but at this point i might be looking for issues (i do grease both drive shafts every oil change).

I also noticed when i changed the trans fluid a couple of years back it held onto gears a bit too long and i would get the low hum (think manual transmission when it wants a lower gear change). Now it changes way before any of those noises, much like how it was when new.

That bump when slowing might not be the transmission shifting into first. If the bump happens right when the wheels stop, it could be a sticky slide yoke in the driveshaft. First time it happened to me it felt like the car behind me tapped my bumper lol. The grease path on the slide yoke zerk is long and prone to be under-greased from factory.

I went through greasing procedure on the slide yoke, burping out air, and making sure it wanst over packed, and it has improved. But it still comes and goes.

You just described what I was trying to put my finger on!

It's pretty subtle in my case and I've been putting a couple pumps of grease into the slide yoke maybe every 10k miles? Guess I'll be giving it some more attention next oil change.

I read about transfer case to transmission seal leaking on some. Toyota tech recommends not changing to often. Never before 30k or it can get to slick and cause slippage apparently. Higher mileage should not be done to early. It needs the band material floating around to give it more bite as it gets more wear. I did it on my 2001 and it went out. Dealer had changed it and I didn't know. Only use Toyota or Aisin WS fluid.

Hello All, no more drips, but i have noticed when i use to take my foot off the gas it would coast along without issue until i pressed the brake.

Now i notice it changes gears down and actually slows down.

Any thoughts on this new drive style? Gear changes down are smooth, i'm just use to it rolling up to a red light, whereas nowi have to hold the gas until much closer.

That’s a weird one. Have you recently disconnected the battery, or cleaned the mass air sensor or throttle body? Any one of these things can force the computer to relearn parameters, which might affect shifting behavior. Or maybe you have low air pressure, or dragging caliper/parking brake?

Good to hear the leak has settled down!

Mass air flow sensor was done about a year ago, will do it again as it didn't take that long.

Yeah when coasting around 30 mph or so when I let off the gas driving in me neighborhood I somewhat get a weird downshift if I watch the rpms, it’s kind of like a dip downshift and then up and down. Can’t really feel it, but like that since day 1 for me.
I’ve always chalked it up to be the flex lock unlocking and a gear downshift combo. I weirdly pay attention to my tachometer because of my previous truck with cam/crank sensors
