Get messaging back

Purchased used. During setup salesman declined messages. Now I can't get my messages to display. I can make calls and play music so the phone is connected. I've been through tutorials and every option on my phone is turned to yes. Pairing phone.. allow sharing I select yes. Error "message list can't be loaded".

 

You have to remove the phone from your Bluetooth connected devices in the head unit and then re-add it. THEN you will get the prompt for Display Messages.

This thread reads differently if you read it as massages.

I thought dealer talked himself out of giving you a massage lmao

 

I was a little confused to, then I re-read it. The salesman setup her phone for her in the head unit and HE hit “No” on allow messages on display.

 

I've tried everything I know and watched multiple tutorials. What's confusing is I can make and receive calls. Just no messaging.

 

As I stated earlier you have to do the following:

1) Remove/Delete your device from the head unit.
2) Remote/Delete the 4Runner from your phone.
3) After you’ve deleted it in both places, turn Bluetooth off and back on again on your phone. After it finds the 4Runner head unit pair it and THEN you can click allow on “Show Messages on Display” prompt.


See, the trick is to be smarter than the smart phone.

 

I have done this my husband suggested unhook the battery or maybe there's a factory reset feature.

Forgot to mention I have an Android phone.

 

How far do you live from the dealer? Might be worth a try to just drive onto the lot and have the first salesperson you see take care of it.

 

On your phone, try going to SETTINGS>CONNECTIONS>BLUETOOTH>TOYOTA 4RUNNER. Click on the settings for the 4Runner and make sure Message Access is turned on.

 

Still doesn't work. I've tried everything and checked ever setting.
