Alright, let's be honest; who here is considering a 6th gen?

Maybe it's a result of designers trying to make a vehicle stand out?

I have heard many complaints of one vehicle looking too similar to another. The problem is that there's only so many things you can do with a basic design. So, they add creases and odd shaped fender flares to make it look different.

    Just a thought. :notsure:

We got one with the 6th gen at least. Function might be a little better at some things but worse at others than the 5th gen. Aesthetics are up for debate. :D

Guy at the end of my street just got a Heritage Blue TRD ORP to replace 5th gen silver SR5.

Got to admit, it looks good with the black flares, door handles and badging.

The heritage blue is dang good looking. Is it enough to convince a move on from the 5th gen? Time will tell...:D

China is now a dominant market. So design language that appeals to that customer base wields more power. And the Chinese are known for preferring over-wrought origami-esque designs with countless creases, ducts, etc.

Having said that, I thought the 4Runner was predominantly a North American market vehicle. If so, tamed down styling preferences and designs should hold more weight.

The market is crazy. Heck I walked a Ford dealer a few weeks ago for kicks and a 2025 Mustang with the 5.0 had a label that the transmission was from China. So much for American muscle I guess.

I think most of the Buick line up is made in China also which explains why most of them look like hell

This is my daily and i love it. I really really really like it a lot.

I remember reading / seeing something years ago about how a Buick in China is like a Mercedes or BMW here in the states. Its a status symbol over there, they all strive to be able to drive a Buick. Its like the big "you've made it" thing over there.

    From the innernet:
Historically, Buick was associated with powerful and influential figures in China, and that perception continues to this day.
In China, Buick is perceived as a luxury brand, a status symbol of wealth and power, especially the Buick GL8.

My biggest confusion with the styling is that the front of it could almost be seen as a refresh of the 5th gen 4Runner, but then it has the rear end that looks heavily inspired by the RAV4. yet bears the Highlander name plate with low to no resemblance to the current gen Highlander.

The Japanese are known to use the common parts bin. A little from here, a lot from there, stretch this, nip that and voila a new vehicle.

Trailer connector relocate, tint, work lights, Pro wheels.
At least the Japanese could make something new from the parts-bin raid… GM would make three or four vehicles, pretty much the same but with different badges and decorations.

The “turn a Cavalier into a Cadillac (Cimarron)” venture might be the most goofy version of “badge engineering” I can think of right now.
