What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

I have a hard enough time waiting for the nanny warning on the radio to go away... Even when i press continue it doesn't continue. I'm never going to buy a newer truck.

 

A lot of owners like to tout the advantages of the safety sense features of the 2020+ model years, but I continue to feel like I won the lottery by lucking into the last model year without them.

That's just me.

 

Had the OTT tuning done, so far not happy. Will probably have them revert it back to factory when they are back in our area next month.

What tune level did you get? I got a medium tune done and its been fantastic, eliminated the transmission hunt and up in the mountains that little extra bit of kick really makes a difference going up 6%-8% grades.

 

When I get on the gas the transmission kicks like a mule, feels like it drops a gear or two and slams it in to gear. Never did that before the tune. Also not a fan of how high the RPMS get before it shifts gears, it screams and just sounds like it wasn’t designed to go that high. I was mainly looking to get rid of the gear hunting and driving like a slug, but that’s how these were designed and built, probably shouldn’t mess with it so lesson learned. There’s a reason their liability release lists off all the things that can go wrong, mainly the drivetrain. Maybe I’m just too old because this tune makes me feel like the motor and/or tranny are going to grenade.

Started the other day but didn't finish. My purchasing dealer added this cheap PPF with the sale. It has been looking like caca for a while now and I just got tired of looking at it. After 2 hours I only got 1/4 of it off. I'm sure there is an easier way but it's me so I'm probably doing it wrong. Bonus content my uncle's 08 Accord V6 with 230Kish miles in the background that leaks out from the rear main but keeps on going.

Try applying some heat from a heat gun. That will loosen up the adhesive. That’s how I removed mine from my C7 corvette.

 

Thank you. I will try another product. I have been using Goo Gone gel but it seems to be mild and I have to apply onto shop towels so it soaks. Then I'm scraping with a plastic razor blade.

I started to but the minimum temp of my gun is about 500 degrees and it seemed to only make the film softer so it would tear. I have a steamer but the water capacity is small. Also read about using boiling water onto towels to keep the heat concentrated in the area but I don't have a kettle. I should probably get one.

 

You may have to just adjust you distance of the heat gun, keeping it just close enough to produce a warm temp to the film allowing the adhesive to release easier. Also, I’ve seen detail shops use the non abrasive wheel that removes leftover glue. You can purchase those online or at an automotive paint shop.

 

Might be something to look into. Used it recently to remove some old decal on a different vehicle and it worked great!

Don't hold it so close, just want to heat the adhesive not melt it off.

I can’t help, cuz I don’t know what PPF is and never done anything for my paint, but damn.

 

Be careful with these. I accidentally removed the clearcoat on part of my old tundra using one of these after de-badging it. The name brand 3M wheel is supposedly worth the extra $

 

I once had a bug shield that stuck on and used WD-40 to get it off. Never used it on ppf though.

It looks like added armor to me. Those pieces and placement wouldn't add any heat shielding.

I used heat gun and peeled it while heating. Came off easy. Then used Rapid Remover spray to get rid of the residue. Rapid Remover is amazing stuff!

 

Which tune did you choose? I believe they have different levels, some more aggressive than others.

 

DD hitch light in. Unfortunately it sticks out there because the receiver tube is short on the Runner. You can’t go further back on the insert because then you run into the light body. Even my GF’s CX5 has a longer receiver tube to where you could use the smaller bore further back for a smaller locking pin. I still dig it though. It’s a running light, flashing stop and reverse light with a plug n play harness. I got it from Hotshot. I’ll get better pics down the road.

 

Have you been happy with the Westcott lift?
