Clunking noise

I'm getting a clunking noise from the front end, more so from the passenger side. It only clunks when driving over bumps. I check everything suspension related and all is tight. Would the shock create such a noise? Even when I rock the truck while stationary it kind of does it, so has to be suspension related I just can't pinpoint it. I know it's hard to figure it out online but figured it's worth a shot.
BTW, I recently installed the Eibach pro lift kit, just over a month ago. Clunking noise started about a week ago.
Any help on what else to check would be greatly appreciate it, before I take it into a shop to have it looked at.

 

Your lift would be the first thing I would scrutinize.

 

I second this theory. I bet it's a ball joint banging away. Lifts cause a lot of unforseen problems after the fact.

 

If you can, post a pic of the spring perch section of your front shocks.

ok, it’s hard to tell whether you may have an issue with the ends of the springs and the perch. Apparently Eibach makes two different types of coil over springs, the first set I received were incorrect (ground flat ends) and my perches required unground ends.




If yours are like matched up like mine then at least that’s one less thing to chase down. Like others said, ball joints would be the next thing as well as check the sway bar mounts for signs of the bar shifting (lateral movement)

 

A lot of us have been victims of LCA bolts that were improperly torqued. Another thought.

Yes it kind of sounds like a pop sound, like a spring is binding. I will try to take a better photo later today.

 

I made sure to get the correct springs and they do match up. I think the difference is the older Pro's had a different style spring than after they revised the Fox shocks or something like that, but either way you're right I can rule that out.

 

I had this exact clunking noise going over bumps at city speeds. It's to do with the Fox shocks that came on the Pros. There's a TSB out for this issue. Even though it called for 2019-2020 model years, my 2022 had the exact same issue.

After some back and forth, dealer replaced under CPO warranty. I don't think it's the Eibach springs OP, but if you want to try and TSB them, you should revert back to stock springs.

check your lower LCA bolts. I just dealt with this a few months ago. Loud metal to metal pop.

 

Thank you for this info. Although it does state for US market only (I'm in Canada) and during cold conditions, which right now is actually very hot here, not sure I'll get far with it, but I can ask before I would revert back.

Yes, that sounds like what I'm hearing. So what do I check for in regards to the lower LCA bolts? Should I just get new ones from Toyota, install and hope for the best?

 

Retighten, I went just a little more than the torque spec.

 

Come to think of it, I don't even think the LCA bolts were touched when I did the spring swap. I'm pretty sure it was the lower ball joint, sway bar and end links that were removed to get the coilover in and out.

 

Did you get an alignment after the lift?

 

No I haven't yet, barely drove it after, just now I started driving it more and looking to book that in as well.

 

Then maybe I’m wrong, hope you figure it out. I know once I solved my noise I was so much happier.

 

I'll tell the guy during alignment to check things over and hopefully he can spot something and fix it. I'm thinking that it can't be ball joints or anything like that with only 37k kms on it (23k miles). Could be the shock itself as stated previous, but I'm hoping that's not the case as it's out of warranty as well now for time.

 

Check all your bolts to make sure nothing is loose before driving to the shop. You don’t want to create an even bigger problem if something is loose.

 

no need for new LCAs, tighten to spec and go from there.

 

Yup everything is tight and visually looks normal. Just weird because it's only coming from the passenger side.

 

unless you beat the piss out of during that time, the ball joints will last over 100k. On my 2011, the uppers are original and have 174,000 on them. My LCA ball joints made it to 167,000 before I replaced the whole LCA during a suspension refreshening.

 

is the whole strut assembly tight? Top hat nut, 3 nuts holding it in up top and the lower bolt through the shock that mounts to the LCA?

 

Exactly! And no I don't drive aggressively at all, on and barely do any off-roading either around here, just mild terrain.
