Rear brake lights not working

So I recently got told rear brake lights are not function when pressing the brake pedal.

I have a 21 TRD ORP.

For reference, I do have after market brake/tail lights. I pulled my OEM ones out, hooked up the power to it, and same situation. I can turn on the tail lights no issues. Just brake lights won't come on when pressing the pedal.

I've checked all the fuses I know to check under the hood and inside the cab. None are broken.

So if anyone has suggestions, im open to hearing them.

The fuse for the third brake light is in the box in the engine bay. Look for a fuse labeled "STOP", it's a 10amp fuse. Even if you think it's good, swap it with a new one or with another 10amp from the fuse box (for testing).

To answer the perplexing issue, buddy of mine and I pulled the tail lights out, used a multimeter and tested out all the connectors. All were giving good readings. But brake lights were still not working. Checked fuses, replaced a few, still no brake lights. My friend located the brake switch behind the brake pedal, disconnected, and tested it with multimeter. Nothing was showing on the multimeter. So we're gonna guestimate that the issue. Sadly, local auto parts stores don't carry it.

Gonna check ebay and Amazon and see if there is anything that won't rape me like the stealership will.

Not related to your problem, but since someone mentioned RockAuto - this forum should create a sticky with RockAuto discount codes that get updated via new posts. On my mustang forum, we have a sticky "RockAuto Discount Code" thread where people post up new usable discount codes. Typically saves you 5% which generally covers shipping at a minimum.

 

I saw anywhere from 36-54 USD from Rockauto.

Usually a bad brake switch causes the brake lights to run 24/7 not the other way around and not work.

But hopefully its this easy.

 

I bought the $54 one. After taxes and shipping it was almost $64. Some of the stealerships I browsed around on had them marked down for nearly $35-37. But suddenly, it's almost $30 to ship. Pretty much break even either way.

 

Well I hope it does fix it as well. But if nothing else, I've got a new brake switch installed.

 

Another way to test the brake switch is to engage cruise while driving, then lightly tap the brake. If the cruise disengages, then the switch is good.

 

One caveat, at least on Fords, if the brake light system has a fault, even a burned out brake bulb, the cruise will not engage.

 

Well I took a small road trip yesterday, and used the cruise on the highway and it disengaged with the brake. Never even thought of that.
