Absolutely, but with this lgbtqtpi world - who knows what type of cladding we'll end up with

Millions of people drive 4 door Wranglers to exclusively commute with, they seem to be okay with it. Being an opentop 4wd with SFA it won't drive as well as an enclosed IFS vehicle like the 4R but 4Rs aren't exactly known to be canyon carvers either even with KDSS and highway tires.

I drove some JLUs for rentals on work trips and they seem okay, I kept it under 80mph and while it was a little loud from the soft top and thin doors(that you can take off, something else 4Rs can't do), I can't exactly it "sucks" unless you have unrealistic expectation for one.

They're ok with it because Jeeps look cool. Or, because they actually want/need the off-road capability.

It's not only about handling. Wind noise was the biggest thing I noticed in my 15 minutes driving a Wrangler.

Drive it more than 15 minutes and you will get used to the wind noise like the engine noises and vibrations in the 6th gen, I noticed those when I test drove a LC250 for fun while I was killing time getting my Corolla some parts.

I doubt it. I ripped one of the mud flaps off my 4Runner when it got stuck between the tire and a rock backing out of an obstacle in 2020. Without the mud flap, the wind just blows into a void underneath the rear bumper, and the noise bothered me until I finally fixed it.

I guess you won't be buying a wrangler then. Everyone lives.

    I guess you won't be driving a 6th gen 4runner then.

    Wild how that works.

New Wranglers drive pretty nicely. They have come a long way since the YJs and TJs.

I drove a brand new one last year. I had no issue with the handling, acceleration, etc. Just the wind noise. Even with a hard top, it was a turn off.

Interesting comment on a 6th gen 4Runner thread coming from someone who clearly isn't buying a 6th gen 4Runner.

I bought 5th gen in 2010 one of «Guinea piggy” and every one was saying exactly that-wait for 2-3 years… well, guess what, 15 years later zero issues only oil changes over 120k on the clock.

Between my immediate family and I we have three “first model year” vehicles and two first couple model year vehicles too. It’s gone well for us but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bogus advice as there’s still highlights that can show up post launch in any car.

(Okay, except the 01 RAV4 had a persistent CEL that was only permanently fixed a few years ago)

The last time I purchased first year model new vehicle (it was Subaru), by the time I sold it, it was on THIRD long block. Thankfully all under warranty, but never again...

This 6th gen would be the one I would actually consider getting the first round. If you get a 6th gen on a lift and see the quality put into it, you can see their changes and upgrades have been carefully thought out. It's worth a real look.

I read complete opposite regarding thequality on another forum, where people complain about things just falling off the truck- wind deflector falls off on hwy, letters falling off, paint, transmission shifting hard, etc.

I get it. I've heard things but not from actual owners. The air dam is a restriction to ground clearance and so most owners are going to remove it but there are some ....

I just think it's worth consideration. Drove a couple today. To be fair though, my driving experience today was being compared to my Rubicon and that's a little apples and oranges trickery right there. Lol

Honestly you read things like that on every car forum. I've got 2100 miles (yes a really small sample size) on my 6G, no issues at all. I checked my air dam, all tight, but I may remove it because I think it looks better without it. Love the engine and transmission, get roughly 21 mpg.

I’ll throw my 2 cents in too.

I got lucky when I drove by my dealer and they had an SR5 on the lot that wasn’t spoken for. Coming from a 3rd gen Tacoma I absolutely love the way the 4R shifts, I’m not getting any of the hard shifts I have read online. The engine sounds like a diesel but I like the way the power comes on and how much of it you have. I have no rattles or anything out of the ordinary. To me at least the quality seems a lot higher than what i am paying for. I’m getting 25mpg, and the air dam was removed when I picked it up at the dealer, we all agreed it looks better without it.

    again just my 2 cents.

I’m happy to read positive feedback, thanks. I’m still debating between 5th and 6th gen, but not scared to buy first year new gen.

I was nervous at first but knowing the engine wasn’t brand new was reassuring. Having the whole global frame build whatever you call it helped as well. My dad picked up the new Tundra as soon as it was released and he put 160,000km on it without a single issue, hopefully we don’t see any engine issues like that in the tundra lineup (he never had engine issues either) but his experience on a brand new generation gave me confidence.

My Son is a big jeep fan, its about all he's owned (~5? now). Definitely the nosiest ride i ever been in, but certainly acceptable for some. I certainly didn't want that much noise, which is why i bought my 4R and promptly put on very noisy tires. lol

I went with the "new" Acura TL in 2004 where they had the big body change and many said its best to wait, but it is Honda after all. Darn thing went to 300k with 1 transmission replacement and a few interior light issues, all covered under warranty. So no major regrets, Honda was known to have transmission issues around that time so was not because its was a new model.

The new 6 gen has some major changes so I would be hesitant, unlike the 2010. But it is Toyota, and we are getting well passed some of the issues of the passed few years.

BUT.... How was the interior at 300K ?
We owned a 2008 TL TypeS and loved it, kept it as clean as a whistle till 2012 when it got rear ended and the body shop did a shoddy job fixing it and couldnt keep rear tires on it. Ole lady traded it in for a 2012 4R and fell in love. We still have the 2012 4R my daughter drives it and the wife since upgraded to a 2023 TRD Sport. Every now and then i look for another TypeS because i loved the way they looked HOWEVER..... This day and age they are showing their age and the interiors are terrible. The dashes cracking apart, the same as the older Dodge trucks kinda baffles me. And what happens to the seats, how does the leather just start spider web cracking like that. Is it drying out from never being conditioned? Is it shrinking from the heat? You see any current day TL and the interior is turrible.

I had no issues with the the majority of the interior but i did have major issues with the leather seats, totally forgot about that! They turned into garbage after 200k, spider crack/ripped and wore out so bad, even my conditioning didn't help or my garaging of the car.

Ill never do leather in a car again, Toyotas SofTex is awesome so far and will likely always be fine.

there are companies that make legit leather kits that look good and last. Roadwire leather kits are thick and hold up well. I put 275,000 miles on my Tacoma with them and I’ve got 260,000 on my 4Runner with them and both look great.

I kinda think the more I think about it, it could be the foam in the TL. Every seat you see cracking apart bad, the foam is missing or turned to dust under the leather. Maybe the foam falls apart over time allowing the super thin leather to stretch which is why it cracks up so bad. My daily driver is an 08 with road wire leather
My wife’s 2012 still has factory seats. Been taking care of them good, keep on the girls about stepping out on the side steps, don’t slide out of the seat. They’re 230,000 miles and still look REALLY good for OEM. I think the Toyota seats hold up really well.
