Planning a Lift on 2024 TRD ORP

2024 TRD ORP, No KDSS

GOALS: Level out truck (lift Front end to match Rear), limit the amount of OEM components that need to be replaced, limit nosedive on braking, better performance over OEM (vehicle is Daily Driver, but plan on doing some light offroading), Aesthetics - want something better than OEM stance. Keep OEM sized tires (will be switching OEM to All Terrain, but undecided on brand)

I feel like going with Bilstein 5100's all around or 6112 up front/5100 in back would be a good solution for price for performance. A little nervous about hearing of some of the 6112's leaking. I'm also unsure if I should replace other suspension components as well

What is a good sweet spot for a moderate lift that still maintains/improves ride quality? My gut is telling me to keep things under 2", but I definitely want it sitting better than all the stock 4Runners I see in my area.

Our 2024 4Runner only has 7000 miles on it, so I am being mindful of warranty. I also plan on sticking with this setup for at least 80-100K before I consider doing something more aggressive. I wouldn't want to do a mod that could prematurely wear out other suspension components (bushings, ball joints, etc...).

Last, I would like to DIY this myself and not take this to any shop (I have done suspension work previously on another SUV - rear lower and upper control arms.) I do realize an alignment is probably required after and I could take it to a shop for that.

I appreciate any tips. I just purchased a newer roof rack and did some lighting mods and suspension is next on my list.

 

Haven't heard of 6112's leaking, I'm running 6112/5100 and a T13 rear 1.5" spring. I have about 50K+ on this set up and very happy. Great ride and no noises, clunks or squeaks. Can't beat it for the price.

 

Thanks. I am leaning Bilstein so far. Yes, forgot to mention - I want to avoid noise (clunks or squeaks) as well.

 

If you spend more you can get suspension with adjusters so you can adjust the comfort vs ride control to your liking. Especially shocks with dual or more adjusters.

I too like 1.5in springs in rear for a very decent ride comfort vs 2in springs. I wish there are longer springs with factory spring rate. I'm someone who prefer factory softer comfort.

When you have 1.5in rear should keep the front at 2.5in or less.

 

Keep in mind if you level it out and then carry a couple passengers and gear, or tow, the truck will squat.

 

I had some previous generation 6112’s on my 2014 that developed a leaking seal. Bilstein replaced them under warranty.
Before installing them on my 2021, I phoned a Bilstein contact that I had spoken with previously and inquired if they fixed that issue. I was informed they changed the seal to prevent that issue from occurring.
I have not had any issues to date with my 6112/5160 setup.

 

^^^ Same here. I had 6112's (front) and 5160's (rear) installed in April of 2024, zero issues with mine. And I definitely like the ride quality.

 

Thank you both. What settings did you use with the 6112's? Also, did you switch out the springs or any other suspension-related components (front and rear)?

5th circlip for my fronts. IIRC I’m about 1.6” 36" from ground to fender
No other components changed.
I suggest using OEM top hat components, no squeaks.

 

Something to keep in mind when choosing a coilover (like the 6112) is to choose the correct spring.

Go with the lightest rate spring you can get to achieve the lift you want. It's going to influence ride more than the 6112. Avoid 650 and 700 pound springs if you have stock front end weight.

 

I think the standard Bilstein rate is 600.
I did not go any heavier, TRD Skid and RSC sliders added weight, and well satisfied.

I ended up going heavier, but I have full skids, sliders along with a front bumper and winch.

 

5160s with resi’s leak which are rear shocks. 6112s are non-resi and are for the front.

my set up is 6112s in front at 2” and 600 lb springs and 5100 in the rear with T13 coils for 1.5” lift. Looove my set up on my DD.

I have a 2019 ORP. I ended up going with the Eibach Pro Truck stage 2. The coilovers spring clip is threaded so it can be adjusted height wise much easier (you dont have to disassemble the whole coilover to adjust height). Made a huge improvement in daily driving & in light off roading situations. Virtually eliminated the dreaded dangerous nose dive. Tows my boat more comfortably too.

you’re selling me on this… what brand 600 lb springs in the front? Did you switch out anything else?

 

the springs are Bilsteins. My set up and tires:

2” lift Bilstein 6112 w/600 lb coils front. Driver side clip set at 6 and passenger side clip set at 4, 1.5” lift Eibach T13 coils rear, Bilstein 5100 rear shocks, 285/70/17 Falken WP AT3, Energy Suspension front bumpstops, Durobumps 4.25” rear bumpstops. Nothing else changed.

 

I have a dobinsons IMS kit with C59-300 springs up front and 599s in the rear. I also have stock UCAs. This is how the vehicle is currently sitting on 275s. I honestly need to adjust the front down some because I wound up with a 2.5” lift up front rather than the 2 I had hoped for. Still… I have about .5” of rake left. As to weight loaded in the back, I did an experiment with these by loading plates into the back. I did this test with 323s before deciding to swap them for 599s to get a little rake back. As you can see, even “standard load” springs like the 323s, 599s, and 505s can take a fair amount of weight without massive sagging.

 

I’m in a similar situation to the OP regarding my 2024 ORP with 5000 miles on it. I keep circling around all the options being discussed here as well. Go with a budget friendly front level with 5100s or Eibach ProTruck shocks with stock coils? Or spend a bit more for ~2” front / ~1” rear lift with 6112/5160 + springs or Eibach Stage 2 kit? All these setups seem to get a lot of love from the folks running them. I would be curious to hear from folks who chose one of these options then switched out to something else because their original choice didn’t meet the needs, expectations, quality issues, etc.

I had some EIBACH Rear Shocks, 0-2" Lift, FRONT 2.0 Shocks E60-82-008-02-01 installed on my 21 TRDORP, although they were better than the OEM shocks, I wasn't satisfied with their performance.
Hence my installing the 6112/5160 Bilsteins.
Again, after having this same setup on my 2014, I'm glad I went back to these.

 

@Saker Thanks, that’s good info. I also found a few posts where owners felt Bilstein 5100 were too firm and swapped to something else, often that was the 6112/5160 combo.

 

I had 5100s on my third gen Tacoma and had that complaint. However, after doing some more research I think the “firm” feeling was likely due to not having enough down travel at the ride height I had set it to rather than an inherent stiffness in the shocks themselves.

 

Sounds right as I went 5100s up front on my 2013 to get rid of the brake nose dive and never noticed harshness.

 

If I select the 5100 option (and keep OEM springs), I’m leaning toward the second clip for .85” lift front only. Thinking that would level it, firm it up a bit, and be good to go with stock tire size.

 

I have a 2024 ORP with 6112/5100 set-up. I’ve heard of the 5160s leaking but not the 6112, but the 6112 and 5100 have a lifetime warranty. I also have a 2001 Tundra with 5100s front and rear and I off-road it on the tough trails. I’m very happy with the ride comfort annd performance of both and have no issues to speak of. Can go wrong with the 6112/5100 set up. I replaced the OE rear coils with dob 323s however b/c the ride of the OE rear coils with the 6112s up front rode badly.
