I have a strange wear pattern going on in my front tires on my Falken Wildpeak AT4W (not extra load rated) that started on the last rotation. it’s a thin vertical line in the middle of the tire all around its circumference, so a wear pattern. It only happens on the front tires not the rear. Yesterday I rotated the tires and the rears didn’t have this issue. Now that they’re in the front there’s a faint thin line also starting to appear.

I’m on Bilstein 6112 in the fronts and 5160 rear with a 1.5 B8 lift in the rear and 1.9” in the front.

Suspension has performed and behaved beautifully and has 37k miles on it. There are no leaks and the car feels solid and handles wonderfully.

The car tracks straight and there are no obvious alignment issues.

The tires have 35k miles and have worn and performed beautifully in all conditions.

Car has 57k trouble free miles.

As far as tire inflation, Cold 32 PSI is recommended and I’m at 36 warm. Will need to check cold later tonight.

Photos attached, the more obvious line is the rear tires which I just rotated from the front. The less obvious photo, are the current front tires which I just rotated from the rear and there’s a faint line starting to form. Any ideas?

I have the same exact lines on my boys 04’ Tacoma. Wildpeak AT3’s, stock size 265-70-16. All tires, front and back, we rotate tires every 5000. It just dawned on me that maybe during hard turns they are rubbing on the frame or something?

I have the same tires so wanted to follow this thread.

Are they stock size or larger?

Seems like something may be rubbing the tire. If you turn the wheel lock to lock, is there anything that could be rubbing the tire, especially when the suspension is compressed?

Is it a seam from how the tire was manufactured?

That’s what I was thinking. Especially if it’s on the entire circumference, including between the raised tread parts. Some type of molding seam/join.

I have the same line on my front Generals.

And yesterday I was looking at a tire post on Mud by a Hundo owner, his Nokians had the same line.

    Weird.

Since its only appearing in front.
Probable cause is rubbing 'on turns'

Do you have any mudguards installed?

This is not caused by rubbing IMHO.

they’re stock sized. No rubbing, I feel like the liner would show marking or even be worn out by now if it was rubbing to that degree.

I’m thinking this may be the root cause. But doesn’t explain why only in the front.

Just the stock. But I see no obvious evidence of rubbing. If the tire is worn I think the liner should be even more worn or a small hole should’ve burned through it by now.

The rubber compound is probably a little bit softer at the seam and it is wearing away faster than the surrounding rubber while the tire is scrubbing on turns.

It shows no signs of rubbing.
Looks like a manufacturing mold marking …..

I have General AT2 and ATX on all my vehicles since like 2014 and have NEVER seen lines like that
    My daily driver 4R
    My wifes daily driver 4R
    My weekend driver 1GT
    My daughters 4R
All have General ATX and none have ever had lines like that running down the center.
You sure you are not catching the pinch molding on a hard turn to the right?

^ OPs look different and appear to be perfectly linear.

    Trail Runnah’s appear wavy/uneven.

That looks like you are rubbing on something. The OPs is perfectly centered in the tire which looks more likely from manufacturing.

Took a look at mine. 4300 miles on them. Have not been rotated yet. Stock size

I have the line on my fronts very similar to OP. Also have them on the rear but very faint

This must be a Falken Wildpeak thing. I’m not buying it’s mold marks.

Out of curiosity went and checked my AT3's, and they have that same line running down the center spanning tread blocks as well as the recesses. As others have said, sounds like this might be a joining line where the tire is put together. For comparison, I looked at the stock Hankook's on her Outback and there is no such line. Weird.
