Comparing my Army green Pro 2020 to my 23 Solar Octane Pro I have seen no difference in build quality.

    ^Same here.

My 2022 4Runner is solid. Approaching 60k miles. Lots of wheeling abuse, road trips, and now a lot more commuting. Hasn't skipped a beat yet.

The Tahara plant in Japan builds these things right.

The only issue I'm aware of is some bugs in the infotainment system in early 2021 models. But I take that with a grain of salt since I have many friends with 2021 models and no issues.

Mine is a 2022 SR5 Premium 4WD. Manufactured in June, 2022. No sun roof. No third row seat. This thing has been an absolute gem so far. Zero issues, just performing routine servicing.

I had a local 4WD / Off Road shop install Bilstein model 5100 adjustable front shocks to raise the front end a tad. I ordered and installed that so-called black "Heritage" grill, while choosing not to install the TOYOTA block lettering on the black grill bar. I had Discount Tire install SL (Standard Load) AT tires in the factory stock size. Mine came with two identical working key FOBS for my vehicle.

I don't go off-roading with my T4R, not so far anyways. It is a pavement princess, lol! BUT- I do exercise the 4WD in both High, and Low, monthly!

My previous vehicle was a 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 4WD Double Cab pick 'em up. Even though I gave up my pick up truck life style, I still wanted a "trucky" looking Body-On-Frame design vehicle. The 4Runner fit the bill. I DID NOT want any of those "wanna be" SUVs with the uni-body, no true frame, city slicker / soccer mom connotations to them.

The under hood insulation pad on my '22 is all black in color. Nothing yellowish about it. Perhaps the manufacturing process or sourcing for these pads varied from time to time?

Possibly 23's and on, they look the worst. Definitely some variance in the links below, but the 23 and 24 definitely have the most yellow showing through.

I was about to write a post discounting the whole notion of a Covid problem. But after searching I found articles from credible sources saying that it’s a real issue.

J.D. Power Study Finds Vehicles Built During Pandemic Continue to Frustrate Owners

But following the statistic of PP100 (problems per 100 cars) one finds that the number has continued to climb. So either the issue is not with Covid per se, or we must still consider ourselves within “the Covid years.” I’m inclined to go with the former. It follows a general decades long trend. It could be that those frustrated owners mentioned in the article might have been frustrated even without Covid.

Yeah, I should have provided more detail/evidence.

I have said it before, its going to take a long time to get through the long term manufacturing and other issues caused by Covid. And I'm sure It follows the general decades long trend we have been seeing with teach heavy and emissions strangled vehicles too.

But i cant help think about those 70 year old Japanese master manufacturing techs that can pickup on QC issues from a mile away that has now passed from Covid and some new young guy needs to replace his experience, wisdom and talent.

I know we are still good. Its one thing to hit the most reliable vehicle ever made, vs a Kia or Jeep.

I think I ended up getting a lemon from the COVID era. My 2020 4Runner Limited had a ton of issues:
    - I had a drivetrain noise (similar symptom to the needle bearing issue, which I understand does not apply to FT 4WD) that started around 10,000 miles, and would not go away. I had the transmission, transfer case, front diff, and multiple rear diffs replaced.. would go away for a little bit, then come back. I was fortunate that the service manager also had a 2020 Limited, and he could compare my truck to his, and agreed there was something up.
    - I had two instances where when I started the truck, the dash lit up like a Christmas tree with multiple warnings. Ending up having to have body harnesses replaced, which required disassembly of the interior.
    - My side mirrors were loose and car washes/windy days would sometimes have them move inward.
    - The clock spring for the steering wheel started making noise around 25,000 miles
    - The rubber trim on the roof would not stay in the channels

Around 30,000miles, I gave up and traded it in for the 2023, which has been flawless (currently has 35,000miles). Dealership was frustrated as well and gave me a pretty good deal to get out of it. I also got the benefit of new features like the heated steering wheel, 360 cameras, better headlights, blind spot monitors, etc. Prior to my 2020, I had a 2010, which also was pretty much flawless as well for 10 years and 170,000 miles. Hard to say if COVID was to blame, but I was unlucky for sure!
    Jim
