    (Opinion)

Don’t sweat it too much, they might not appreciate the benefits when it’s their turn!

(I for one had fuel economy as a top priority as a broke college kid, not to mention what could happen when a new driver is in with a sea of other new drivers)

So many 5th gen’s are rolling around anyway so I’m sure you’ll have much more options than 4th gen’s today at least.

True, the used prices for clean, low miles, no accident reported 5th gen are insane. Also paying insurance, gas, maintenance for a vehicle that we don't need today doesn't seem a good financial choice.

You must not be new to trading in and out of vehicles?
If you trade in a vehicle, the amount of your trade comes off the taxes of the new vehicle. For example,

If you trade in your 4R and the dealer gives you $56,000 for it and you buy a NEW 2025 Limited and it cost $66,000 then you will only owe taxes on $10,000 and at the 5% for Arizona you would owe $500 in new taxes, not on the whole $66,000 purchase price. And if you just got your 2024 in December, your tag and all would transfer over to a new one and you'd only lose about 6 months of the purchase price on the tag.

same in Texas too, on the tags. As long as it's same type of vehicle, ie SUV to SUV, pickup to pickup.

I just helped a buddy score a nice 2018 limited with all the options he wanted for a price that you wouldnt believe.
He has a 2021 Camry TRD, the fancy one with dark wheels and wing. He got it when interest was super low and before prices shot way up. He's been paying a bit over his note here and there and only owes like $13,500 on it.
Carvana and CarMax both offered him $26,500ish
He decided he wanted a 4R like mine or my wifes, newer Limited with black interior, 3rd row, and running boards.
I searched and sent him about ten links the first day, and about ten links the second day.
He scrolled thru them and the pix and really liked a white 2018 with black interior and 3rd row. Dealer had it listed at $28,800 i believe. 138,000 miles, not brand new but nothing out of the ordinary for a 7-8 year old 4R that lived its entire life in Texas. Everything is a drive.
I told him "If you can get that dealer to match your trade Carmax offered, and talk them down $-3,000 on their sticker that would be a great buy."
He talked to the dealer, sent me screen shots of the conversation and paper work, i gave him stuff to say, word for word, tricks and tips to get the price down.
The dealer eventually came up to $26,250 on his trade
The dealer eventually came down $2697 off their sticker price
He is putting $3,500 down and going to owe $10,000 at the end of the deal
He financed it and is like $190 a month for 60 months so he will pay like $500 and have it paid off in two or three years but if he got in a bind he only HAS to pay $200 a month.
He used the equity in his camry to leap frog into a Limited 4R and with some creative number crunching doesnt owe much at all.

I'd say so, if he went from owing $13.5k to $10k when all was said and done, and has the vehicle he wants.

Did you SEE the stock street tires on that Land Cruiser? He isn’t doing any off-roading at all with those bad boys.

Maybe he's at the tire shop then? Or possibly stuck on some wet grass and can't get back here to post.

I am actually worried that @Grandpawmoses just went silent on us here. He is usually a regular on this thing. Hope his well! Or he is hitting MOAB already on his LC!

If I were him, I wouldn't look at the dealer's website and see what his prior 5th gen is listed for. LOL.

I hope he got a decent discount on his LC250 at least, all the ones near me have at least 2k on the hood, some as much as 6k.

But none of our banter matters as long as he likes the new whip, he should drive what he wants at his stage in life.

How do you like the LC interior compared to the 5th Gen? Is there more or less space? How comfortable for long rides?

Probably spending more time at the gas station. with a 17.9 gallon capacity and reported <19mpg on Fuelly between 24 and 25 model years, the range on the thing is a show stopper for me as it currently sits.

I m not sure the tags transfer in AZ, but you can request a refund of what’s left (i.e. refund on 2 years and 6 months)
