Hello! I just recently got a 1997 4Runner. It’s in very good condition; shifts smoothly and engine power delivery is butter.

I was thinking about changing the transmission fluid soon since I’m not sure when it was last changed.

The catch is, the truck has a hearty 306k miles on it, and I’m curious if it would be more beneficial to just do a drain and fill, or a complete flush? From what I’ve researched, higher mileage cars shouldn’t do a full flush, but just wanted to throw a post out here to see if anyone has any wisdom.

    thanks!

Drain, fill, call it a day. Could also pull the transmission dip stick and see what the fluid looks/smells like.

Never do a complete flush especially if you don’t know the history. It can do more harm than good. Drain and fill only

I drain the trans pan when I change oil. Easy Peasy get a new crush washer, it drains like 2.1 quarts of Dexron II.

Drain and fill per schedule and you will never need a flush.
