I’m new to the Toyota world and have a 2016 4Runner limited and it starting shaking pretty bad when i apply the brakes at 50 mph+. My first thought was and rotors so i went to replace them and everything appeared fine but I was 2 hours from home so i went ahead and replaced them and it didn’t fix it. I’ve had the tires rotated and everything appears fine. It only shakes when I’m trying to stop 50mph+
    any advice is greatly appreciated

    Agreed /\

Though i have had my 19 shake at ~50mph breaking before, but it was after sitting in the rain for a week and it went away.

shaking felt through steering wheel or through the seat? this will help narrow down to a front end or rear end issue.

Sometimes it shakes bad enough you feel it in the seat but Everytime it shakes the steering wheel

Did you say you changed your pads and rotors? 99% of the time it is the rotor being warped but you should also check the slide pins on the caliper and make sure those arent seized or tough to move in/out. If they're tough to move in/out or seized, pull the pins and clean them thoroughly. Apply just a LITTLE grease to the pins and reinsert. People put way too much grease on the pins and that is counter productive as it keeps the pins from sliding in and out correctly. Let us know what you find.

Yeah… the only set the parts store had, had a big crack on the face of them so i ordered new pads and they’re supposed to be here today. The old pads looked brand new, they’re only a year and a half old and the car doesn’t get driven every day.
The driver sides pins were able to be pulled out and everything slides as it should and i inspected the pads and they were smooth and no grooves or cracks the passenger pins were seized but the pads would still slide on the pins when the caliper is pulled

You should always replace the pads if you're replacing the rotors. The pads wear to the rotors.

I normally always do but these pads had little to none wear on them

slight possibility if those pad had worn oddly (which they would on bad rotors) they could slightly impart that odd wear to the new rotors. If you havn't driven much definitely negligible and I'm not a materials scientist but once you start a bad wear pattern I think it would probably accelerate.

Curious if the new pads fixes it.

Agreed. I bet the pads are worn uneven causing the same issues on the new rotors.

im leaning towards they will. But also check to see of the pistons are all moving in and out uniformally.

I can’t wait to hear if this fixes your issue because I am having the exact same issue. TCCN admits on his 6th Gen review that the 5th Gen has issues creating warped pads.
