Are Engine Oil Temp and Transmission Temp available over OBD2?

I've done some forum searching but didn't find a definitive answer.

I'm trying to get these to display correctly on my Banks iDash Pro and am trying to determine if this is a 4Runner problem (i.e. these are not available on 4Runners) or a Banks problem to be worked out for the new gauge.

Trans yes but engine oil temp or pressure no because there are no senders for it. I contacted Banks about this and they said they would get back to me but never did. Instead I use OBD Fusion on my crapple phone for trans temp since it will display on my headunit. However I neevr monitor it because I’m mostly city/highway and there is an overtemp warning.

 

Ive pulled up trans temp on other vehicles with OBD2, so i would assume it should be available on a 4Runner as well

 

Thanks guys. So trans temp but no oil temp or oil pressure. For trans temp, what should I be seeing for temps? After about a 30 min drive, the iDash Pro was reporting 154F.

 

TC outlets temps will fluctuate much more than pan temp.

 

This is on par with what I seen on my ScanGaugeII with trans temp in town cruising without excessive ambient temps.

There's apparently two sensors, pan and converter temps. I only have my pan temp working, it might be the other way I am not certain my memory is correct.

 

I believe that transmission expectancy chart is outdated. Especially with Toyota’s overheat warning set being (too?) high at 300 F last I heard for at least some older models like the RAV4 and plenty of transmissions sitting closer to 200 but not dying in 50k.

 

Tranny temps is what I track when I am driving long distances and hauling something or heavy loaded in the back. As per this shot.


There are no thermocouples for engine oil temps however so can't track those. Probably indirectly you could track those but why...really.

 

Oil temp will be close to coolant temp over the long term because of the heat exchanger above the oil filter housing. (And if the heat exchanger fails, you're looking at a new engine.)

 

Don't have much technical knowledge like ya'll. But why not use something like Scanguage obd2 device where you can monitor Coolant temp, transmission temp at pan , transmission temp at torque converter, etc..?

 

No need. There are warning lights for anything and everything. Im not a big fan of leaving something plugged into the obd2 port continuously, thats not what its designed for. Whatever you leave plugged in there could short out your ECU. If I need a temp ill plug in my scanner, get it, then remove it..

 

Sh^t. Good point. I should keep mine unplugged for daily driving. Only plug in when I'm doing a trip.
