What Mods Should I do?

Thinking about upgrading my 2022 sr5 now I do not do much offroading this is more for looks for me. Is it worth me going to 2in lift with bigger wheels or just do a leveling kit or something along those line. I just want a beefier more aggressive look with some bigger wheels.

There's plenty of info on this, so you can do a search. You'll find a lot of details.

Basically, I would do a 1.5-in lift in the front, and leave the rear alone. Bilstein 5100s are a high quality replacement shock that will allow you to lift the front and improve ride and handling qualities.

Lift doesn't really fit larger tires on these, it's more about alignment and wheel offset. So for tires, I would go with a slightly more aggressive all-terrain in the factory size. Simply going to a legit all-terrain will make the tire look bigger than stock, that was my experience on mine.

Even with a stock size tire, if you go with a wheel that sticks out far, you'll most likely have rubbing issues. Sticking with a factory style TRD Pro wheel with stock sized all terrains along with the 1.5 in front lift will give you a beefier look, basically like a TRD Pro, without giving you any rubbing or alignment issues.

I would skip the lift/level an just go with an aggressive tire. But if you are going bigger tire that's a whole different can of warms and leans towards heavy off-roader.

 

It boils down to money. How much do you want to spend? Are you satisfied with stock wheels? Do you want less MPG? How much MPG loss are you willing to drive with?
Bigger more agressive tires hit the MPG and make road noise. Are you thinking Raised White Lettering on tire or black wall?
Lifting the truck also gives less MPG, and may make sliders with steps or running boards necessary for family and friends.

 

MPG doesnt bother me to much, I have a work vehicle I drive during the week. Ill spend whatever is needed I just want to know the best option for a still smooth ride while also changing up the stock look I have right now.

Just about anything bigger than stock, even 285/70R17 would be pushing it. At best they will rub when turning, at worst you will have to cut some of the body to fit the larger tire. That picture they cut some of the body and did a full lift.

 

I read a post of mine from two years ago after buying it. I’m that post I said I’m done after the lift and 285/70/17s. I look back at that post and laugh. I’ve done so much more. New rci skid plate, rock sliders, recovery points, roof rack, awning. It never ends. But we off road in it. As others have told you, just putting more aggressive tires without a lift really does change the look. Take a look at Mickey Thompson Baja Tires. Those really look nice.

 

What lift do you have and what tiresize?

 

I have the eibach stage 1 level kit. Absolutely love them. Here is why i went with them. King and Icon need to be rebuilt every 30k miles, Eibach and Bilstein you dont have to do that. My tires are Toyo AT3s - 285/70/17. My next set will be the Mickey Thompsons

The ride is amazing. Absolutely love the eibach. You have to remember you would be moving to an off road shock so the ride is firmer

 

+1 for some 265/70/17 Baja boss AT's and leave it alone after that. If you don't off road there's no need to start dumping a bunch of money...

That said, if you decide you want a lift after the tire upgrade... keep it under 2" with an eibach or bilstein kit. These will perform great on road and won't be too much stiffer than the factory setup.

If you want tire poke and bigger tires you'll have to do a lot of cutting. There's plenty of resources on the web about this.

Great tips. I see myself going this way once I get tired of the OEM look. I don't mind the TRD ORP Rims, but not a fan of the OEM stock tires. We do road trip a lot and MPG is important to me - About the only drop in MPG I'm willing to give is an upgraded Roof Rack.

 

I am running toyo AT3s and love them but I was in an off road shop in Colorado and asked the mechanics what tire they would run - without hesitation they all said the Mickey Thompsons

Yes they were.

The Toyo AT3 has great reviews. I hear they perform great on wet roads. Very lightweight too which helps retain some efficiency and range.

I’ve been really curious about the Baja Boss AT since they perform really well on and off road. When I move to 35s I’ll be going with Mickey’s Baja Boss AT’s or MT’s… haven’t decided which yet.

My 34” Falken AT4W’s have been a bit underwhelming in the mud. Super strong sidewalls but pretty damn heavy and they don’t perform as well off road as I’d like. If I were to do it again I’d probably skip 34s go with 35” Baja Boss MT’s

That's the biggest can of worms I've seen on a 4Runner
