Manufacturers have moved away from paper service manuals and do online subscriptions. You get the recommended intervals in the warranty/service book.

You’re not going to find a printed version of a manual from Toyota, and I don’t think Haynes makes service books like this anymore. A TIS subscription is going to be your only trustworthy source for that information. The 48 hour subscription will be the best way to get the info you need when you need it. Unfortunately, that system is set up in such a way that it’s nearly impossible to simply manually download everything relating to your model (unless that’s the only thing you’re doing for that 48 hour period).

I have seen some companies sell a “digital manual” for the 5th gens, but you’re not really buying the manual. Instead, it appears you’re actually buying a sort of computer program than searches out and compiles all of the relevant info on a model once you give it access to the toyota TIS system. You have to buy a subscription to TIS first, so the program can access the system. I haven’t heard any good or negative about these compiling programs, but it might be worth a shot once you see those available for the 6th gens. They weren’t cheap for the 5th gens, about 100 bucks. But if it works well, then for around 150 bucks total you will have the definitive digital manual whenever you need it. If you’re planning to keep your 4runner for ever, that may not be a bad deal.

    1. Pay for a TIS subscription.
    2. Wait for someone to bootleg it and posted it on one of the filesharing sites.
    3. Go to your local public library which may have computers with ProDemand or AllData, then print the relevant pages. It may be some time before 6th gen info is included in those 3rd party networks.
