Advice wanted…I backed into something a couple of weeks ago and cracked my bumper cover. Have any of you used a primered bumper cover as a temporary replacement? It looks matte black which might look okay on my white ORP… I don’t have the cash for a fabricated bumper right now but can’t stand driving around with the crack… please see photos

The primer will be ruined by UV damage and it won't be worth paying a shop to fix it so you'll end up buying two bumpers eventually.

Welcome. Scrap the truck! I wouldn't even want to drive it anymore! Lol

As said above, you'll end up buying 2 covers if you don't follow through with those type of replacement bumper covers . Just drive it with the damage until you can get a new cover and paint it etc. If it's truly just cover damage it won't be any worse.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

OP, get it fixed correctly when you have the means and time. Like others have said, the temp part will be ruined if left on for too long and you'll be pissing that money away. I'm in the process of having my rear bumper replaced because someone rear ended me. Thankfully the other guys insurance is paying for the full cost, so I'll get OEM parts and it will done correctly (one can hope, anyway).

Know this before you make any decisions: The OEM bumper, labor to remove/install, paint and other fee's is coming out to roughly $1700-ish dollars. The part is cheap, but labor rates to remove it, paint it and install it are about 70% of the total cost. The damage to your truck is similar to my damage (there's no hidden damage behind the bumper). Oh, and it's taking the body shop THREE WEEKS TO GET ME MY 4RUNNER BACK!

...sorry, I had to vent again. I hate the rental car they gave me.

Since it's purely cosmetic, drive for as long as you can. Maybe during that time you'll get rear ended and that damage will be repaired by someone else?

Looks fine. These aftermarket bumper covers aren't actually primed. They are just molded black, like the bumper and mirror caps on base-model Tacomas (and tailgate garnish/handle on 4Runners).

Fitment will be fine too, because it's 2025 and every chineseium gulag has access to 3D scanners and CNC mold making equipment.

Been corresponding with Brea at Painted OEM Parts. They offer both OEM Toyota bumper as well as aftermarket at lesser price. Total OEM with tax & shipping at $1,130.00. Hesitation is metallic Silver paint match and phone number not answered. Voice messages have been returned same day.

^Paint match will never be spot-on, because paint on steel and plastic substrates fade at different rates. This divergence starts at the factory before the bumper is even mounted to the vehicle on the assembly line.

Understood, why dragging feet. Body shop will re-shoot once gratis if not satisfied and discount job if I'll remove/reinstall/transfer valance/etc.. Fastener's are once/done, so factor that in.
Likely go with shop because metallic and difference gets under $500. With $1k deductable, not worth claim so out of pocket either way.

That being the case, why do the bumpers stay matching afterwards for so long? You rarely see an oem bumper that looks off...

That's something I've wondered about too. I'm currently wondering about it because my bumper is being repainted as we speak. So I worry it won't match. The body shop guy said the paint still looks brand new, so he's pretty sure he'll have no issues matching it.

Back in December when I had my front bumper repaired the paint job came out kind of flawless.

In the OP's case, white might be the best candidate for a good match. Hopefully. At some point, however, one has to decide if a slightly mismatched bumper cover is better or worse than a cracked one.

To the untrained eye in normal daylight maybe. An experienced body shop technician with various color-temperature inspection lights would be able to tell the difference.
