Now that i paid off my 4Runner early i want to get it/me a gift. I have wanted to replace the plastic running boards for Sliders with kick out. Problem is they have gone up in price so much since i first started thinking of them.

I was planning on going with RSG but they went from $850 to $1250, which is fine but i wouldn't mind saving some $$$. Any other manufacturers people would reamend?

I have Greenlane Aluminum Sliders. I got the non kickout version but they offer both. They were reasonably priced and quality is fantastic!

Greenlane was awesome to work with as they custom made them with a solid top plate for me.

Price is not too different than steel but they look nice and though they wont rust they may oxidize and peel. Wonder how they realistically would work for sliders since aluminum dents easer and doesn't really slide well?

They sound like a really good option and look sweet. How long have you had them now, powdercoat?

I've had them for about 3 months but that includes a trip to Moab (2800 miles and many rocky trails). They are quite beefy, much heavier than expected and have gussets to further strengthen them.

Powedercoat is solid. I would think as long as you touch up any chips that might occur, it shouldn't allow them to oxidize

They (Greenlane) were the only ones willing to do a solid top plate for me so my wife's heels don't get caught in one of the holes / slots in the step surface.

They were extremely communicative about them as they went through production and packaged really well (important as they come from Canada)

RCI sliders, that's what I have on my truck and they are great. They run sales fairly frequently (such as now) and to me are a great deal. I have the 5 degree with top plate and work well as a step into the truck (my wife puts her foot parallel to the truck and then gets in). Good luck with your search.

I think the $850 price may be quite dated. I paid $1099 in April 2024 for the kick out sliders without the top plate. Inflation is real.

I went with RCI and waited until they had a sale and I think they had a free powder coating option at the time too.. came to be somewhere under 800 bucks last year - great sliders

As mentioned, RCI is quite popular. And, they seem to have a lot of sales.

I have RSG and like them, so I can't give any personal experience with other brands.

This is just my opinion, but, unless you really want top plates, don't get them. They create a place for mud and snow (if applicable) to collect and rust to form. I didn't notice how bad mine were getting until I decided to repaint them. I ended up grinding the welds and getting rid of the top plates.

Also, even powdercoat will chip and eventually rust, as mentioned in the Westcott thread recently. Make sure to stay in top of it, as rust will sometimes spread under the powdercoat.

^^Just fyi, but the RCI top plates are screw on, so removable for clean up,etc.

Nice! That's good to know! I'd definitely lean towards RCI if I were looking for sliders with a top plate in the future.

    Thanks for pointing that out.

^^^ re RCI As the top plates get most of the use (for now, haven’t really had much off road time), it’s good to know I can take them off and get powder coated again.

I second that with the top plates. If I did it all over again, I’d go without. It’s a pain to get the mud out.

@Ripper238 - whichever slider mfg. fits your fancy, be sure to research the shipping cost. These are a big item to ship, so factor in what the shipping cost would be from them to you. One of the reasons I went with RSG is they are one state over from me and the ground shipping cost was very reasonable.

RCI, 5 degrees and no top plate. I really like them. I do use them to help getting in and out.

My All-Pros were 99$ shipping for bare. They charge 199$ for coated. Sometimes you can find free shipping but not very often.

I'm surprised at the many options I was unaware of and great suggestions. Thank you!

I definitely want to top plate, besides the look my older mom would probably feel more comfortable using them when i drive her.

I was leaning RSG, but the removable and replaceable (sold separately as well) top plat on RCI is a really great idea. Hell i could take it off before I go off-roading in the mud. lol

Shipping is a good point. I, as many, have gotten way to accustomed to free shipping. This will be a small fortune do to the size and weight.

Update: actually shipping isn't that bad, $114.

I love the RSG's like you posted, I prefer the welded top plate and they've been great since I installed them. I would just wait for a sale to pop up if those are the ones you really want..

The powder coating on my BAMF's is the best I've ever seen.

I see rust on a lot of sliders. Not these BAMF's. Only where they've kissed rocks.

These guys put out insanely nice products, and oddly enough quite a bit less expensive than other options. I picked up my skid plates from their shop, but even with shipping, the value is top notch.

edit: when I say nice…I mean it in terms of engineering. Both their sliders and skid plate sets are works of art in terms of design and function. I think he only ships them in raw steel, but honestly with this type of armor, it’s best to prep and paint them yourself.
