    Hey everyone

    First post

Looking for recommendations on where to fuse my lights. I will be using the engine fuse box and the install video recommends the INJ position. I was considering though using one of the headlight fuses to have them on only when the headlights are on. Anybody else do this and what fuse do you recommend?

    Thanks!

That might be a better idea if you must install "raptor" lights.

Mine only lasted few months since they were on when vehicle has power. LEDs start burning out.

    How it started -

By the time I decided to put them in trash -

My recommendation = don't install them, save your money.

Haha well shit! Looks badass though. Since I have them I’ll give it a go but once they burn out I don’t plan on reordering if that’s the case……

did you replace the front and rear valance to get the matte black?

    Sounds like a plan.

This one is my TRD Pro. So its factory.

Since you have a silver I will share this. I was not interested in changing the grill and valance on my Silver TRD ORP. I liked it as is. Atleast I think silver is good as is.

If you decide to change try to buy Toyota original parts.

Don’t do it. You’ve been warned. Just do a search here of raptor lights. There is absolutely no upside to the install and based on what I’ve read here, I’d never do it. The truck not starting, blown fuse, lights going off. Absolutely no upside to doing it. Only heartache

I've had my Amazon ones in for over a year with absolutely no issues and love the look. I just wanted to see how they were without spending a lot first. Mine are powered by the fog light fuse at the top of your pic, if that blows the truck doesn't have any issues.

    Welcome from DE

side note: surprised no one suggested a broken fuse, that way OP doesn’t have to worry bout them actually turning on…

all seriousness, glad you’re here bud

HA of course, I thought it might have been a PRO. Did you trade in your off road for it?

The off road silver looks super clean. When I bought the truck alot of it was already blacked out like the emblems, grill strip, lettering, and windows so I did the grill cover and was planning on getting the valances eventually to match everything. I was looking at yota expedition and 4runner lifestyle as it seems they carry higher quality and solid options for mods and accessories.... I'll check out and see what I can find for Toyota originals though!

Sheesh! Sounds like a pain in the ass. Would have never thought they would cause all these issues.

Nice! The 10A fog FR? Ya ideally I would just want them on when the headlights are on if I go through with it....

Long story short my modified TRD ORP had a crash by the dealer when they bring it back home after service. Accident repair was done poorly. After a well documented complaint files to the Toyota corporation the closest thing they could give me was a TRD Pro after buy back my TRD ORP.
Till date my kid says "dad, I miss the TRD Offroad. Its more comfy than this TRD Pro. And we had lot of fun with it.". It had ELKA suspension and few more mods. I miss the capability of it. But I try to move on with what I have now.

correct. but that's a personal preference of mine to have them on then, you could find another fuse that is on with the ignition, there's many of them. Just grab a electric tester to find it. The INJ fuse is fine but sketchy if a fuse tap blows, can leave you without a starting truck somewhere.

Appreciate it! Been living in Chicago for the past 8+ years but we're heading to Wash state in June so pumped to get out and hit the trails.

Not trying to burst your bubble at all. To me, the risk outweighs the benefit. There was just a post two weeks ago about a guy installing raptor lights and it worked the first time then he went to do it again and had no power to the car at all.

The INJ fuse is for fuel injection. When the truck does periodic evap system self tests at night, lights tapped into the INJ fuse may turn on as well.

The headlamp lo-beam or fog fuses are safer choices.

How long does the "periodic evap system self tests" last for?

The test happens after about 5 hours of sitting. Lasts maybe a minute or two. My experience.

Did this thread start in the Wheels & Tires section or was it moved here by trolling?

What's the biggest tire you can fit with four raptor lights?

Haha that's great. I know I'm going off topic here now on the thread but eventually I am wanting to get suspension and a better all terrain tire and will need to find a good mix for road and trail riding capabilities...

A reminder that some lights/light bars can require lots of power(watts or amps) so a relay powered by your runner power panel can easily supply the watts/amps for the relay on-off. I would use a proper wire guage and dedicated fuse to actually power the new lights.
An electric fire will destroy your truck.

There are many YouTube vids that show installation of the lights. You can mount a dedicated switch to turn them on and off and install a relay with not too much effort. Make you happy.
