Nah. Regardless of the rear handle placement, Gen6 just looks good. Nothing to apologize for here. 70-series and 250 look great too btw.

The original Pathfinder still looks great, despite its rear door handle being higher than the front and completely hidden into the C-pillar. If the core design is good (like Gen6) I’m not concerned with handle placement.

I wonder how many people complained about the passenger side interior back seat door handle on the Gen1. It was lowered and angled down toward the rear.

At least it's in dark gray color so the actual lines can't be seen as much. These things are best bought in black or white or gray where the body lines are somewhat washed out.

I saw one in brown the other day and it was truly an eyesore.

Looking at how good the LC250 and GX look, the 4R looks like an exercise similar to the Lexus predator grill of a few years ago where they wanted to see how bad they can make the design and still have people falling all over themselves to praise it.

Yet somehow the GX and LC Prado/250, both using same platform as the 4R, managed to come up with a flowing design that doesn't need to do the offset since they didn't use cartoonishly fat Subaru style fender flares and incoherent body lines.

Yup. You could have baby poop be the pro color of the year too and people will gladly pay the markup to have something unique and cool.

The overlooked Nissan in the US is the pre-25 Nissan Armada. A lot of housewives and aspirational Lexus wannabes buy them not knowing it's a Nissan Patrol. If I had to replace either one of my 5th gen ORPs, I would be looking at a low mileage Armada with the 5.6L v8.

As far as Nissans go, my family used to buy them in the 80s but went mostly Toyota since the late 90s. But recently, I personally own a sub compact from them that I bought from them earlier this year due to it being the last new economy car with a manual. The build quality is good, not excellent, but rattle free and no surprises, including a NA Port injected 1.6 I-4 that's surprisingly refined and gets me 45mpg on the highway. It was nice to buy a 2025 model year sedan with NA PI motor, hand pulled parking brake, key ignition, and a manual all for 18k. If Toyota still sold a similar Yaris I would have bought one but alas.

    What'choo talm bout willis....
You aint seen the one-off Lexus grille for the 4runner then have you? I dont even need this but i want it some kinda bad. Like, its not even the greatest build quality, its definitely a mexico built piece but it absolutely is baller and totally changes the 4R.

AND if you can find one thats about two years old thats not clapped out from the hood, you can typically get a banging deal on them. The resale value is bottom of the barrel, they lose like $14K-15k a year in resale.

That’s a lot of words, and posts to avoid saying you bought a Nissan Versa. Why hide it if it hit every checkbox you wanted? Sounds like a solid commuter car.

Also- why are almost all the early 6 gen adopters new to the 4Runner? Most posts “state this is my first 4Runner… yada yada..” And they all love it. But they all seem a bit disingenuous with little to no understanding of what makes a 4Runner special and beloved. They seem more into it for likes and just being “first” to own.

Nissan only makes one subcompact sedan so I figured car people would know.

Although that car is also getting axed even before the whole tariff thing came about so I guess Americans REALLY don't want subcompacts.

It wouldn’t look so bad if Toyota had just spent a few more dollars and color matched the door handles. These trucks look so cheap yet are so damn expensive.

Because most current 4Runner owners don’t like the new gen. Maybe that was Toyota’s plan to bring in a new younger audience?

I agree, if it had color matched handles and fender flares, it would look much better.

I’d say the forum is hardly giving them a chance before they’re getting piled on. Sure the 6th gen is “different” than the 5th gen, and probably are initially attracting the commuter/never-minivan crowds, but it would be nice if they felt at home enough to hang around… At the very least so we can have something to whisper about on the 5th gen forums when they start mpg threads :p:D

But how are these vehicles getting on these folks’ radar? Why all of a sudden is a gen 6 4Runner so intriguing when they haven’t been before? There is nothing revolutionary about them. And I haven’t seen much if any advertising yet. But even here in Maine almost every inbound vehicle is listed as “sale pending”.

Are they truly selling well or is there just some internal hype? Gosh in my area I’ve seen maybe four or five new gen Tacoma’s on the road and I’ve not seen a 6th gen 4r at all. The dealer is stocked up with Tacoma’s and the new 4Rs seem to outside a week or two plus when I drive by to get my groceries.

I havent seen many on the road yet, but maybe they’re out there. The 6th gen forum isn’t exactly awash in new owner threads…it’s mostly just us old guys yelling at clouds lol.

We must mourn the 5th gen. Both the design, and more importantly, the passage of time made the 5th gen great. The 6th gen is not the same vehicle, and it’s had no time to be fleshed out and proven yet. And that’s the reality.

But in a world of cvt transmissions, hybrid complications, or even other yuge trucks, the 6th gen is still pretty unique in the SUV slot. Body on frame goodness (despite some glaring disappointments in setup), and ICE only option (despite turbo complication).

Now if ford or chevy decided to make suvs out of their midsize pickup options,Toyota should be worried, because the 4runner wont be able to claim the durability or reliability advantage until it’s had some time. But I think the platform of the 6th gen will get the time it needs to prove itself, mostly because of the amount of money toyota has put into it. For now, the 6th gen is at a point where the 4th gen was 25 years ago…brand new everything…gaudy black fenders and all.

Yeah, I’m just wondering, to myself, what makes the 6th gen finally the BOF vehicle these people now must have? And such that they’re willing to pay at or above MSRP to acquire.

Because folks used to cushy sedan and CUV chassis might be in for a rude awakening when they have spent $50, 60, 70k plus on a bouncy BOF ride.

    Maybe I’m just overthinking it.
