Does anyone else have the problem of a solenoid rapidly clicking when the vehicle rolls back. This happens every time i take off on a incline. Even on speed bump. Dealership tells me this is normal. I guess when the brake assist doesn't come on bc I didn't push the brake pedal hard enough to hold the car. This is very annoying and unacceptable in a brand new car as far as I'm concerned. Dealership said they would get back to me regarding if this feature could be shut off. Never heard back which seems to be common with this dealership. Corporate office was supposed to get back to me yesterday... never heard anything from them either Anyone want to buy a 2018 4Runner?

mine will do that from a dead stop if it starts to roll back, it thinks it's slipping and freaks out. I know it will do it and just make sure it doesn't roll back. I'd buy your but I already have 2 4runners and 3 starts to sound like hoarding

Mine does that too, it’s the vehicle stability control kicking in because the vehicle is doing something contrary to what it’s being told to.

Press harder on the brake and transition to the gas faster or, hold the brake with the left foot while you begin to accelerate from a inclined stop.

I also don’t think you’re going to get much sympathy from us here considering it is an enthusiast site and the bulk of us have learned an extensive amount about these vehicles and understand the systems functionality.

My '16 would do this but I noticed it more when shifting too fast to D and not stopping all the way after backing out of my driveway. If I didn't come to a pretty complete stop the thing would chatter at me. I got used to it. If you dislike it so much I'll trade you my current '08 for yours straight up. :)

if you let it roll back the stability system thinks you're sliding and starts making noise, beeping and stuff. OP doesn't like that and doesn't think it's right :notsure:

I understand that if I don't let it roll back it won't do that. I just was wondering if that was normal mechanic's with this vehicle. Certainly not looking for sympathy as someone mentioned just wondering if that is something all gen 5 owners are experiencing. Thank you everyone for your feedback

You must be talking about the hill-start assist. This is what pg.264 in your manual says about it:

"If the vehicle is in danger of slipping or rolling backward when starting on an incline, or if any of the drive wheels spins, the slip indicator flashes to indicate that the TRAC/VSC/Trailer Sway Control/hill-start assist control systems are operating. The stop lights and high mounted stoplight turn on and a buzzer (intermittent) sounds when the hill-start assist control system is operating."

If you think it's excessive, I'd just try a different dealer. See if they can replicate it and see what they say.

    Is your truck 100% stock?

I have a 2019 Limited Nightshade and this happens when I pull into drive. The incline is small to say the least but wet or dry, it happens every time.

It’s the vehicle stability control kicking in. Relays click on and off to modulate traction.

I'm not happy with it either Miss. It's now the new normal in buying modern vehicles. It's the CYA in design and engineering to avoid/reduce litigation in court. In other words, the nanny factor. Sorry to say but, at the Corporate & Dealership levels and we the consumer level are SOL. And this goes for all makes and models of almost all the vehicles sold in the US.
I personally dislike automatics but, I use both feet when I drive up my own steep driveway to be ready to stop for cross traffic. I'm a retired truck driver and also drive a Jeep with a manual and a 98:1 crawl ratio.

This. Apparently the OP hasn't went off road. It's a rowdy system. Clicks and bangs all the time. OP calm down. The dealership, in this case is correct. Its completely normal. I battle it, when parked on steep inclines with my e brake applied. Or hold the brake pedal,..Shift to drive, give some gas, and release the brake. All is good.

Hell go find some snow, and let it eat, aka goose it till it starts to slip the rear end. You'll hear it, and the slip indicator will flash. Its ALL perfectly normal.

Mine does it too. I notice it when I go uphill from a very mogul like environment, rock, dirt, to a blacktop surface. IE from trail to regular driving surface.
Wet conditions may also increase the likelihood that it does it too. IE there is mud and debris from the trail.

I tested mine today. Got on several inclines. Let off the brake, and the truck just held in place. Didn't roll back at all. Even on some pretty good inclines.

But I have had it turn on over speed bulbs. I assume this is so the truck doesn't fall fast in off road/mogul type situations.

    Speed bulbs?

Mines turned on in turns where there’s been pot holes and suck. One turn I make every day leaving work is notoriously bad with pot holes and shitty patch work and it happens on a daily basis
