I tossed out my tired, OEM front swaybar linkages and put some new ones on from RockAuto...feels great, only took 20 min, and eliminated a metal sounding clunk on certain bumps I hit... was a good day!

Here's the interesting part... I've replaced the gascap with OEM. reset about a month ago. The lights come on maybe a week later. I top the tank to the brim, lights go off on their own...

If you keep topping off the tank to the very brim after the pump shuts off, then this could be causing an issue. It’s not good on the evaporative system to top the tank off after the pump stops the first time.

I should clarify my previous post. I fill it till it stops. Once it stops, I round up to the nearest dollar (for reasons I've never really thought about). Start vehicle, lights still on. 2-3 starts later, lights go off. 1-2 weeks later, lights come back on. If it were a kink/clog/ animal snack, there would be a constant issue unrelated to what the tank guage reads, or am I thinking too logically here?

295k time to change my oil and filter, once underneath I saw my front differential was leaking. I suspected it was after my last CV axle replacement but I shrugged it off. I’ll pull it in the garage this week and lift it in preparation for the seal replacement, I already have both seals in house (always prepared for the unexpected). Once I return from my daughter’s Masters degree graduation I will replace the seal….. not looking forward to the work but it’s better than paying the outrageous hourly labor and parts increase prices.

Fun twist I noticed yesterday. Once the tank got at or below 1/8 full, the lights and code came back on. Filled up that afternoon. Fired up this morning, no lights. Fuel filter? junk in the tank?

I think the fuel filter is in the tank, but it never hurts to replace those, ever! I try to keep ethanol fuels outta the truck but it is hard to do so, sometimes. maybe run some fuel injector cleaner or seafoam to clear potential contaminants out of the fuel system...as you were suggesting before, are you vacuum lines all sorted and holding air, still?

Today I saw a video on YouTube about getting the 4wd actuator motor to work by loosening the three bolts holding it to the t-case and trying to engage it with the switch/dial. For me this did nothing, in the same video he pulled the motor off exposing "arms" that go in and out to engage 4lo and the center diff locker. I wanted to see if I could do the same thing in order to check if the arms were stuck or if they moved so I could rule that out. Well long story short I fixed nothing, determined it's the motors in the actuator that is the problem and as careful as I was I created a small leak. I want to do the fj manual t-case swap like @extremewlr did but I don't weld and don't understand what to do with the wires and plugs from one t-case to the other. In the video I saw, the guy wound up buying a new actuator with arms/rods, pulled them out of the new actuator and bolted it to the t-case which still had the old arms in it. I think this is the rout I'm going to go but man...$650 for an Aisin actuator? Ouch

I plan to eventually tow a travel trailer so I finally rounded up all the parts and swapped out my V6 hitch for the frame-mounted V8 type. I decided to pull the rear bumper cover and that made it much easier.

Looks good! Is the trim piece that covers where the old hitch was part of the hitch or a separate piece?

I got around to installing my snorkel
that should help a ton this summer with dust

I also installed a backup camera just under the rear spoiler. I've had it sitting in a box since I replaced my head unit 2 years ago lol

Separate. Bought it not realizing it’s essentially pointless but oh well.

    IMG_0956.jpg

Then you’re in luck, my friend. They’re Sequoia takeoffs that can usually be had on FB Marketplace at $200 (or less) for the set.

While I’m thinking about it, anyone know what this is? I was focused on the hitch install so I didn’t look at it closely.

That is an air outlet or a pressure valve so you don't have a sealed truck interior...you want that, though, some have sealed it up...if you shut your doors, your ears might feel the pressure differential like you're swimming deeeeeep under water, if you seal it up...

Awesome work with the spoiler! That looks well done and will for SURE, aide in your anti-dust ingestion! Let's see your backup camera on the spoiler! I have one of those license plate versions and it just looks janky...or, not correct...I'm half wondering if I could get a better camera and find the rea hatch OEM housing of the camera and modify...or better yet, use the space under the rear spoiler...

If you find a camera that fits the OEM housing, let me know. I was hoping to 'upgrade' my camera as the picture sucks (2004 camera) but haven't found anything conclusive. I have a 2016 Scion head unit so i'm thinking the screen resolution isn't the issue.

You guys who are thinking about a rear camera, I have a Wolfbox G850 Pro and really like it.

The spoiler mount has a lot of advantages. Your view isn’t blocked if the cargo area is full to the roof and no need to ever run the rear wiper. While raindrops can make the picture blurry, I contacted their customer service and confirmed that it’s fine to use something like Rain-X on it. I’ve applied some but haven’t had a chance to test it in the rain yet.

The biggest challenge by far was fishing the wires through that rubber boot between the body roof and the spoiler. Pretty much a breeze other than that.

The screen comes with a strap attachment where you place it on your OEM mirror. I wasn’t a fan, so I gave them $20 for a Toyota OEM-compliant mount.

When it’s off, it works like a normal mirror.

When it’s on, you have your choice of rear view, front view or split screen. I closed the garage door to eliminate the glare.

I was surprised and quite amused recently when two young ladies working the Chick-Fil-A drive-through line just went goo goo over it. “That’s SOOO cool!”

I only have one regret: I recently found out they’re releasing a new three-channel version with a front mounted “trail cam” capability. Not the end of the world because my Pioneer head unit has a front camera input so I’m just going to run one to there.

Well, I had a 50/50 chance with the axle seal and I chose wrong, got to the gym this morning and all I could smell was burnt gear oil. I did some research and realized I installed it wrong.:annoyed::facepalm:So this weekend it will be a repeat process except installing the seal correctly…….you live and you learn.:drunk:

It’s tough to seat it just right. I did mine once and it leaked so I had a shop do it last time. What I can’t tell from the research I’ve done is whether you just tap it down until the lip is against the face?

All I get is this little box?!
You actually put it on the axle and use the axle to push it in. The issue is you tap it in too deep so it leaks.

I bought an Etsy Scangauge 2 gauge bezel and I think it'll work...easier to read and rests nicely on the steering column.

luckily I have 4 axles in a tub ready to be rebuilt, I’ll just remove the locking ring out of the end that goes into the housing and press it in.

Today I replaced all 6 coil packs. Super easy access. I used DENSO 6731308 from Rock Auto.

Im a new owner of my first ever Toyota. The maintenance history showed that all 6 spark plugs were replaced within the past year. I pulled one, and it's a Denso K20HR-UII. Is that a good plug? All 3 plugs on the passenger side were loose. I think the stealership forgot to torque all 3 down.

Looks good. You buy directly from Wolfbox, or did you go through a 3rd party site (ie Amazon, etc.)?
