It’s handsome but current owners are going to have to cope with that huge front end, longer hood. Besides styling, sight lines, parking, under-hood access, all affected.

Wrap-over rear glass looks cool from the outside b/c the illusion hints it’s a skylight, so buzzkill to see that from inside it’s just a plain old ordinary 3/4 window.

Saw my first 6th Gen in person. Two things I noticed.
First, it looked like any other SUV on the road. It could have been a Ford, Subaru or Chevy. At least from the back and side. Zero road presence and the rims were hideous.
Second, it was much faster than mine in covering small gaps and overtaking.

Interesting you don’t think the back stands out. I always find the back uniquely 4Runner and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the 6th gen and thought they kept the “4Runner look” from the 5th gen, especially with the back. I will admit the latest gen expedition has fooled me a few times with the back, but Toyota had that look first with the 5th gen.

Good lord. For a minute I thought I was looking at a picture of a Jeep Renegade.

    That's one ugly bumper.

Those tires look too small and too low profile.

Bro the Renegade under the skin is a flaming piece of Fiat engineering mess but its exterior is better than this, at least it has no posterior tumors growing like the 6th gen

the front is generic but at least no double Hulk-stache

If only someone hired a Renegade designer and stuck the underpin of a Yaris or something, that would have been something. Toyota designers for the past 2 decades have turned out some real eyesores.

A coworker of mine had a Renegade that was such a POS she ended up suing Jeep. She fought the law and...she won.

They probably have to use granny tires to meet the fuel economy requirements. I think (could be wrong) that those are even smaller than the 5th gen's standard tire size. But, it looks like one could easily fit some bigger rubber in there. IIRC, the 4th gen Tacos are fitting 35's without much issue.

But, even with 35's, you still have to look at that bumper. :notsure:

Has anyone done a test drive with the TRD Off-Road Premium with i-Force hybrid engine?
I don't like that they changed to a 4-banger and wondering how it drives. I love my 2021 Venture Edition.

That they found it necessary to provide a more powerful hybrid in addition to the standard 4cyl turbo makes me worried the 4cyl turbo is gonna feel underpowered.

Are you concerned about power, or reliability?

As far as power, the T24A makes significantly more torque than the old 4.0 V6, and at lower RPM's.

This has been discussed to death. The turbo 4 makes more power than the outgoing V6. If you're still concerned, go to Tacomaworld and read the threads about towing with the 4th gen.

Welcome to the forum, time traveler from the future. Here, back in 2025, $60K is still a lot of money for most people.

I don't get that, if that's true. Meanwhile, Jeep, Ford, and GM give you the option of aggressive tires, straight up MTs on the Jeeps, and not a watered down OEM version like Toyota does with the Wildpeaks. Even the Nissan Pathfinder comes with Toyo AT3s.

How do the others get away with it?

And you're correct, the base 6th gen tire is a 245, which is smaller.

It’s pretty ridiculous to pay these inflated prices and they come with a shitty set of tires.

I think they get away with it because it’s based on fleet average, and the larger and more aggressive tires are only available on certain trims or packages.

Toyota offers 32" AT's on the Trailhunter, and Lexus offers 33" AT's on the GX Overtrail. Still pretty wimpy compared to the available tires on the Wrangler and Bronco, though.

    When are you taking delivery?

Toyota seems to have a habit of using crummy OEM tires. I would think it was something to do with CAFE, but they seem to be worse than other manufacturers in general. At least, regarding their trucks and SUV's.

Even the 5th gen generally came with shitty tires. The Dunlops mine came with were gone within a few weeks of ownership, and I know I haven't been the only one.

For that price I'd rather get the entry model GX550.

The GX is nice except for the time bomb V6 engine it comes with. The same email also had a Land Cruiser for $4K off MSRP. I assume once the dealer lots are flooded with 4Runners their prices will drop too but the price will still be too high for what it is.

Right, so Toyota could do the same, if they weren't so lame.

The ATs on the Overtrail are ok, but the Pro and Trail Hunter tires are throwaways.
