Looking at trading my Jeep wrangler in for a 4runner. I found a 2016 4runner trail edition for 22998 with 145k on it. Do you think that's a good price and should the miles worry me. I know i have to check and make sure rust is not an issue. Thank you

To me the mileage isn't a deal breaker, that kind of implies a lot of highway miles. I would check the maintenance history to make sure the fluids had been serviced as required. And as you mentioned regarding rust, give the frame a thorough looking over.

I'm sure others will chime in who are more in tune with the latest resale values as the question does come up a good bit. As they don't make the 5th gen anymore the used prices have definitely gone up. Just a quick check on carmax 2015 SR5's with 100k on them are listed at $26k.

Looks at similar models and ratchet the price up and down based on equipment and condition. You should get a good sense for it as prices may vary from location to location.

If everything checks out as working, and the 4R is rust free, I wouldn't personally hesitate at spending that for that year and mileage. Whether that is comfortable for you, only you can say. The pricing seems within reason. Used, and especially 5th gen 4Rs, are pretty much demanding a premium price these days, along with other Toyota trucks. As a comparison, try looking at 1st Gen Tacomas on BAT. Some are selling for, and being bought at, more than the price you're quoting for this 4R.

The best way to know the value is by comparison to others in your area. Check CarMax, CarGurus, AutoTrader, Cars.com etc and see how similar optioned/miles etc are listed.
4 Runners by nature will seem priced higher than other similar makes or models as they just hold their value better.

I've had my 2019 Limited for several months now - 78k miles and $36k OTD from CarMax. I had to have this one moved from Florida to SC because I couldn't find what I wanted anywhere nearby.
CarMax prices on a national average though so their prices can seem high in some areas. They can still be a good point of reference.

for an offroad vehicle, the jeep is probably better, but for overlanding the runner takes the cake in my mind. but how would you feel trading in your 83k mile jeep on a vehicle with almost twice that milage? Guess it all depends on your situation, but I would struggle to have 2 vehicles with over 150k miles on them. That all being said, I'd want the 4runner.

My 2017 has 69,000 miles. I found a 2019 with 50,000 miles I got for my daughter 15 months ago.
I personally find the 2019 model year with its lacking the bunch of electronic gizmos federally mandated in 2020 models a simpler and hopefully more reliable 4 runner.
