TRD pro suspension

Hey guys need to reach out again concerning my suspension , I recently bought a 2018 trd pro in the rare cavalry blue .When i did the inspection i didnt realize that tha car is about 2" higher than my nephews 19 pro . apon inspection sure enough there is what looks like an aluminum block on top of the front shocks. i nwould like opinions on weather i should keep them or if its true that it will cause future suspension issues and early suspension failures . I have no idea how long ago they were put on the truck but i do like the way the truck sits . am i making a big deal of nothing ? Also how do i tell what they did to raise the rear end ? Assuming you're looking at Bilstein coilovers, and you have aluminum spacers on top and black spacers below the coils, you have Toytec's spacer lift for Bilstein equipped TRD Pro's.

The lift is slightly different than a regular spacer lift. Regular spacer lifts move the coilover down. The Toytec lift adds preload to the spring for 1" of lift, and the spacer for the additional 1", for a total of 2".

I've been running that lift for over 100,000 miles without a problem. Unless you are doing some serious offroading, the lift will do you well.

Now, if there's no black spacer on the bottom, I couldn't tell you which spacer lift that is. Spacer lifts aren't the best, but they're not the big boogeyman people make them out to be. 6" spacer lifts are dumb, a 2" spacer lift is fine.

 

Well, it looks like you're in Florida, so I don't expect you to be doing any serious rock crawling or off roading. If this is the case, you'll be fine. That being said, lifting blocks are stupid and are no substitution for a proper suspension lift. But they're a cheap way to to get the mall crawler bro look. Post a picture of the front and rear suspension for more detailed analysis.

Thanks for your help i can see the spacer up top but i dont see a second one below .but i dont realy know what im looking at . i think its just spacer on top of the coilover ,and yes Bilstein shocks . Question do these shocks need to be serviced?

Bilstein 6112's can be serviced, but it's not cost effective.

 

That is a spacer lift, it looks like a 2" spacer lift from ebay which can be seen here.

Most likely if it has that much up front, its either got lift springs in the rear or a spacer in the rear. That much up front would make it nose high by a fair bit.

Kinda a bummer that someone put on a cheapo spacer lift on a Pro, especially when there's a solid spacer lift designed for those specific coilovers that mitigates some of the negatives of spacers.

Side note, what happened to (where are) your fender well splash guards?

 

That's a top plate spacer. You should get bumpstop extensions of similar thickness, to ensure the suspension bottoms out on the bumpstop and not on the shock. Avoid jumping the vehicle until you do this mod.

 

What's with that castle nut on the shock mount in picture 5? Makes me wonder what other hacks there are on this rig.

 

I changed the castle nut after I took the pics,I thought the same thing. The truck will likely only see mild off road .I bought it for my wife who wanted a JEEP wrangler ,please God no .so when I found this color she was good with it . Went to south Texas to get it dry and hot,probably why the splash guards are gone .or when they did the spacers maybe they felt they were in the way.

 

Thought the "pro" came with fox shocks? The lift block, is whatever.

 

2018 Trd Pro had Bilstein. Not Fox i believe.

yes they are Bilsteins i think in 19 they switched to the Fox system at least thats what came on my nephews trd pro

Another problem I discovered when I had a top hat spacer on the front coil overs is that at full droop (weight off front wheel) the UCA would make full contact with the coil over. With the coil spring spacer in the back, I only had 1” of down travel before the shocks would top out with a big bang every time I drove over an obstacle. Never again! I’m running stock suspension with no lift now and it hasn’t hampered my off roading ability at all.
The only benefit I had with the lift was it looked cool and made oil changes a little easier. I don’t miss it at all.

 

^The proper solution would've been to get longer shocks and extended brake lines to accommodate more suspension travel. If stock suspension hasn’t hampered your off roading ability at all, it just means the dirt roads you went on haven't been challenging enough (which may be a limitation of available trails in your region).

2018 4runner had Bilstien shocks, No moonroof (which I like), no dual zone climate control, no push button start, no JBL sound, no led fogs (ofcause no led headlights), no safety connect/sos, no turn signal indicator, no special roof rack, etc....

But i want the front locker. (that wasnt even mentioned)

In fact, i don't want any of the safety shit, or climate stuff. Hard pass on a sun roof. Nothing else. But would go down on a law man, for a front selectable locker.

 

Sounds amazing to me, but, just want a front locker. For me, i would pass on everything you mentioned. That pro roof rack, is good awful ugly, and for me, is shit. The "JBL" audio is trash, don't want a push to start, already installed the fogs i want, and again, i want zero of the safety stuff. None of it. And with the rack i have, dont want a sun roof.
None of that does it for me. To each their own.

2018 offroad here. And ill never get rid of it.
(janky lift, 285/70/17's, my own audio, and thank god no safety stuff, or push button to start or any of the other stuff) But id love a front locker. A front oem locker. Weird what people want. And that's cool.

But again, to each their own. I beat the shit out of this thing, so i get others are different with the want of their rig.
