Yeah, so this one was supposed to be a candidate for a paint correction and straight flip. I drove ten hours (through a damn near blizzard, no less) to find the pictures were hiding a good bit. Lots of small imperfections and some not great paint equating to basically needing the full treatment (albeit not to the same extent as the others). BUT... lowish miles, seems mechanically sound, drives great, no rust, very clean undercarriage. And I had been up for over 24 hours at that point so screw it. Let's make it happen.

At any rate, I won't be short of stuff to do the next few months.

Well, this bad girl is likely going onto the simmer burner while I finish Black Truck and Blue Truck. So you might be following for a bit. I had intended to pivot and focus all my energy on this one for a quick turnaround but I learned multiple lessons today.

One is that white paint hides imperfections in pictures. Truck definitely needs a full respray. This is in addition to quite a few more small things. So I'm thinking if it's not going to be a quick turnaround it doesn't make sense to get sidetracked. Onward with Black Truck!

I need to do some Monday morning quarterbacking and figure out what I could have done differently here. One thing probably would have been to say "I will pay you X... if the vehicle is in the condition you say it is" thus leaving more room for bargaining. Instead I agreed to a price ahead of time. As a result this truck was bought at a fair price for someone who intends to keep it for themselves. It was not well bought for someone who intends to refurbish and resell.

I will keep a build thread on this one though, like the others.

Oh, one other thing I'll say though is 10/10 would do it again. 10 hours is at the edge of how far I'll drive but I think you can get deals on trucks in these small rural communities. The winter storm did suck. Next time I'd avoid that.

100% will be keeping the forum updated! I thoroughly enjoy this forum. People are friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about their vehicles. An absolute gem if you ask me!

I'll likely take her in for an inspection as soon as I can get an appointment. So the to-do list of mechanical items will be first. From there I anticipate she'll be hanging in my backyard until the other two are done. But the updates will eventually start rolling in!

That’s a sweet little truck. Just thought I’d mention that some like me appreciate mechanically well-sorted (immediately usable with no major faults or needs) over cosmetics. And if it’s not eaten by rust, that’s probably good enough to command a good price without a paint job. In fact, the buyer that really really wants it, might actually prefer to do the paint themselves. Food for thought.

As for your purchasing strategy, hard to say, especially on a long distance drive. The second they know you’re driving from 10hrs away, it gets very hard to convince anyone that you’re gonna walk away from the price agreed to over the phone.

The likelyhood of it getting it sold out from under you while en route is also real. Especially if they have somebody show up willing to buy waving cash money around.

If you’re ok with risking a day of time, you can play it cool and just tell them you want to check it out. Don’t mention anything about your distance. Don’t bring a trailer. Then it might be easier to make an offer that fits exactly what you see.

That said, a 20 hour round trip isn’t something most are willing to risk, so paying a little more might be the reality to make sure you got that sweet truck.

Yeah I may just list it as is and see what happens. I'm already thinking of everything I want to do with it though! I feel like the white would look great with a blackout treatment on the chrome.
