I had my 4Runner at our local tire shop with a low front tire a week before I noticed my spare was missing. We had to show the tech the tools to get the tire off to check…& in there was the tool to lower the spare that we have never used. It is now scraped on the end from being used. The only way someone could take my tire is to have the back gate up and have that tool. There is just no other opportunity for someone to access the inside of my car to get it. Of course they swear they didn’t take it. I know the office managers & they are good people. But no cameras in the back. I can’t see any other way it could be taken. Any thoughts?

I don’t know for certain but you’re assuming the only way is access from the hatch. Crooks know how to do things. Let me ask u this. Was the wire all the way down or up when you noticed? I doubt a crook would reel it back up. If it was back up, my bet is on the shop.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
If they don't have security cameras showing the theft, then it's really your word against theirs. They'll probably say you need to prove you had the spare before you came in. But who would randomly take a picture with a time/date stamp of your spare tire?

The chain was up. Also the chain is in tack. They are providing the tire and I am buying the wheel. I will never go back and I will always be checking my spare. I figure when the next person comes saying their spare is missing they will know they have someone stealing.

Damn. That sucks. Here is another test id do. Drive through the parking lot and see if anyone has a truck that would take that tire.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Thieves suck, it doesn't matter if it's a pack of gum, a pair of socks, or in this case a tire/wheel. Hear of instant karma? Maybe they got theirs already.
