Bought an iphone 16 at the beginning of the month and ever since my CarPlay is not working properly (had a 13 before). I purchased a data transfer USB C cable, and the system worked for 1 day as before (display and operate music / phone / apps / iphone maps app on my dash screen). The next day, it absolutely did not work, it seems like the system recognizes something is plugged in, but it never fully connects. I went to Verizon to see if they had any help and it wasn't much. The sales guy came out to my car and we messed with some of the 4runner settings, and actually did get it reconnected. But then it disconnected and did the same thing as before, recognizing some connection but not fully connecting. Today it worked for an entire 45 minute drive, then didn't work on the drive to grocery, but then did work on the drive home. It like, flicks on / off and never really connects when it's not working.

My bluetooth connection is working fine. But what I am missing from that, is I the ability to see my apple map apps and other apps on my dash screen. The Verizon guy did say he is able to mirror his phone via bluetooth with his car / phone - is that a capability for my 4runner?

This this is what I have done so far:
    - bought specific data transfer USB C cable (maybe not the best quality though, ordered through wall mart)
    - updated iphone to iOS 18.4.1
    - turned on / off the iphone after the system update
    - Ensured Siri is enabled
    - Ensured Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, make sure CarPlay is allowed in "Allowed Apps"
    - iphone is showing CarPlay is connected to my 4runner
    - confirmed 4runner infotainment system is up to date
    - searched apple, google, reddit, other forums (only big thing I found was doing the update to iOS 18.4.1)

Simplest would be to try another cable or two.

To be extra sure I’d look for a brand-name, not necessarily Apple-branded but something like that, maybe Anker or other big brand to start. Especially if the current one is a random one online from a brand that looks like a jumble of letters.

Guy was talking about wireless CarPlay, not an option here unless you go for one of those dongles. Can’t speak for those.

I had the same issue, I was using non-Apple cable and was always running with issues. Once I used Apple brand cable it worked fined for me.

Agree on getting a decent cable. Some of the lower quality ones will act the way you describe.

You know for my USB to C charging cord for my PC and other car and now 4Runner the Apple Store itself did not have apple brand. I have a 16 Pro iPhone

They sold me the brand “Mophe”. I was shocked. This works well in my Honda and PC but in all fairness my 4R has been parked for winter and I have not tried it yet in there. But for a few $ I would try the Mophe cord sold on apples website

I had the same problem and ended up ordering a Anker USB-C cable off Amazon and haven't had any problems since.
