Just looking for opinions, I know some of the tacoma guys report that their OTT tune has some issues with the transmission shift points when cruising around town. But have seen nearly nothing as far as reviews for the v8 4runner...

Transmission shift point arent too bad with the v8.. less gear searching than v6 models, and I already have a touchy throttle do to a cheap controller.. so I guess theres little if anything to gain. $600 saved.
Thanks for all the input ;)

I dont know exactly how long they have been doing the 4.7
They HAVE been doing the 4.0 for some time and i think thats their biggest seller. I have done two of the meets with an OTT tuner and its absolutely packed, he has a super full day scheduling them like every 15 mins apart.
I have been twice and between the flash, drive, check, you're there about an hour or so. During the two times i have meet up i have ONLY seen newer tacomas and one other 5th gen 4R like mine. There is a line of tacomas getting done or waiting the two times i've been. I believe that is the current "big" marketshare they are getting but i can tell you from having two done the before and after is daylight and dark, way way nicer, drives like its supposed to.

I have the 4.7 in a Tundra and i actually like how it feels, how it drives, i have not wanted to tune it because i dont push it hard enough to feel i need to do anything else. I dont have any complaints on the stock shifting, gear changes, power, performance, cruise control, ect. The 4.7 in my Tundra with the ECU tuning seems pretty dang spot on for what i ask the truck to do and i can only suspect the 4.7 in the 4th gen 4R does the same.

Its the newer vehicles, the newer tacoma and newer 4R that REALLY suck. My 2012 and my 2023 are basically identical vehicles minus the hood scoop and fancier screen but they drive totally different. The throttle response, the power, the tuning, the shifting, is all completely different. Reading thru the forums over the years and noticing patterns i would venture to say somewhere around 2016 Toyota started changing the way they tune and then somewhere around 2018 it got worse, and then around 2022 it went absolutely to shit. The way they base the load calculations in the ECU in the commanded load versus actual load is what i think is so wonky. The newer vehicles WILL NOT lug down and pull a hill in a higher gear, if it sees any load and loses a fraction of RPM it downshifts and if it loses too much RPM it will downshift 2-3 gears and rev the engine to the redline. Its wonky as hell and makes cruise control absolutely useless.
