My mother loved my 15 4Runner so much she got the same year, same color but in Limited. She loves it and looks for reasons to drive. The only thing she does not like is the 20" wheels. Will she have any issues if she finds someone to direct swap with a pair of 4runner 17" wheels and tires?

Nope, no issues. They will swap just fine.

Doing a direct swap she’ll probably have to have the TPMS sensors reprogrammed to her vehicle.

A possibility. I don't think she would mind the charge for that.

That would be the closest thing to an “issue” with swapping. Physically it’s fine, th lugs will fit, the overall tire diameter is the same, everything bolts on and functions correctly, it’s just the electronic pressure sensors that would need to be adapted to the vehicle via scan tool.

I got the impression he was going to find someone to try to do a direct swap with, as in they take his wheels and tires and he take theirs. If he’s buying new wheels/tires to replace the 20’s definitely just swap the sensors from the old wheels to the new wheels, but if your swappingnwith another person it’s probably easier to just reprogram the sensors than trying to arrange 2 vehicle to go in at the same time to get 8 tires broken down to physically swap them back the vehicle they originally came on.

How much better is the ride with the 17 inch wheels?

Is there a TPMS relearn tool that's affordable for Toyota. I'm coming out of a Chevy Colorado and had bought 1 for like $75, saved me a lot of $ as I swapped wheels and tires a cple times. Literally takes 30 seconds per tire. just point and hit the button listen for a honk and move to next wheel, so simple, it sucks that dealers and some tire shops charge so much to do it, should be a simple provided service instead of a $ maker.
