    Greetings everyone!

Previous Jeep owner here who bought a Black 2024 4Runner Off Road Premium about a year ago. My Wranglers I’ve had before had lifts with 35” and 37” tires so I’m used to that ground clearance and road presence. I want to get a lift as my first mod to my 4Runner. I’ve been quoted $770 for a 2” Rough Country lift from a local shop. I’ve heard from another forum not to touch Rough Country. Any suggestions?

Most of driving will be daily driving but I want to spend my money and it be worth it, but also not trying to brake the bank. Side question: I still have ToyotaCare with maintenance and warranty and all that stuff, will a lift/spacers void maintenance coverage. I didn’t have to worry about that with Jeeps.

    Thank you in advance!

Good looking 4Runner! You'll miss the big tires and capability of your Wrangler, but you'll love the reliability and road manners of the 4Runner.

I can't say for certain if suspension lift will void your warranty, I suppose it could if something attached to the suspension went out. Really depends on your dealer, some will use any excuse to void a warranty, and I've heard that some Toyota dealers are notorious for this.

As far as Rough C coming for the country, there are many options for the 4Runner, and much like the Jeep world or any other vehicle, rough country is not very desirable.

A very popular option is to do Bilstein 5100 shocks in the front, which have an adjustable spring perch so you can get a few inches of lift out of them. Pair that with a 1-in rear coil spacer, and you could get a 2-in front lift, 1-in rear lift, for a little extra height and a more level stance. And with a reasonable lift like that, you shouldn't need to do anything with the control arms or have any alignment problems.

The 5100s are cheap, so there's really no reason to go with the Rough country.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

It wouldn't void the entire warranty. If the lift/spacers affect your driving components (UCA, LCA, Shocks, brake line) then yeah, they can deny your claim. But if your radio goes out then they can't say there was a direct correlation. So that would get approved.

Make sense? It can vary from dealership to dealership. If you're on good terms with your dealership and have given them a lot of business over the years, they'll probably work with you. But no there are no guarantees.

Thank you! To clarify should I purchase both front and rear 5100s shocks and have the shop adjust to my preference? Speak to me like
I’m five. Both lifts I’ve had both were OEM.

Yes, the 5100s for the front and rear. The rears are just a regular shock absorber like you would have on your Jeep, the fronts are more of a strut.

If you want to get fancy, you can do the 6112 front, which is a 2.5-in body shock, and a rear 5160. The 5160 is essentially a 5100 with a remote reservoir.

Here's a link to the 5100s, I don't know anything about this particular shop, it just came up in my search.

    https://mudify.com/products/bilstein-b8-5100-2-5-inch-4runner-10-on-adjustable-leveling-kit?variant=44044930875632&?tmsrc=googlead&tmcid=21691806213&tmsid=175896650628&tmid=713368989547&tmkw=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2N2_BhCAARIsAK4pEkVBW4Mv2XDtj6p3LQc_GjqxJ0vWB2fQZ_1tXBeFltzdXfkHKo70pmcaAjreEALw_wcB

    And here's a link to the 6112/5160s
    https://yotamafia.com/product/bilst...o0eXIRQ5H3IH7Q4BLxSWolp4NJLeChl4aAsv7EALw_wcB

I'm pretty sure that if you go with the 6112s, you definitely need new coil springs for the front, to fit over the 2.5 in shock body. If you go with 5100s, you don't necessarily have to get new springs.

The rear can be lifted via spacers or new coils regardless of which shock you go with.

I mentioned the Bilstein because they seem to be one of the more popular options on this site, but there are a few other options as well, such as ARB, Dobinsons, and Eibach. Those are all high quality parts from reputable companies, around the same ballpark price.

I'll add it if you want to do your research, there are three YouTube channels that have done a lot of content on Toyota suspension.
Tinkerer's Adventures will show you in high detail exactly how the suspension works, and how a lot of the lifts affect performance. He's an engineer and these videos have a ton of information.
Overland Outfitters specializes in Toyotas and has done many suspension comparison videos.
Shock Surplus, who sells many of these kits, has also done a lot of comparisons and informational videos.

And, skip Rough Country. My first lift on my Tacoma, total pavement princess was RC. Shocks were blown out and rusted to hell after a few years. 5100's if you're on a budget. 6112's if you wanna spend a little more.

Like mentioned, with every vehicle, warranty is intact unless something you did causes the warranty claim.

$770 to install rough country seems steep. I had 5100s installed at the front on mine for about that price. And that included parts, labor and alignment. I’m in SoCal so prices here are a bit higher than most places. Where are you located?

I only wanted to level mine so I did nothing to the back.

I’m in TX. $770 for ordering and installing. I agree I thought it was high for the product but wanted to get opinions.

I also had a jeep wrangler Sahara 2012 3 inch lift and I went to the 4runner about 18 months ago.
Very happy with these,,.F2427E5F-9D86-4E14-9313-E3B0C619C993.jpg on the road and off-road. The fronts are adjustable so you can get the right height that you desire. Lots of good reviews on this brand.

I'd steer clear of rough country. There's tons of quality lifts available. Biggest kits are 5100 bilstein and eibach pro truck lift. Or teraflex has a really nice complete kit

Welcome from Wisconsin! It might depend on the dealership about the lift/spacer kits. Our last 2 Toyotas, 1 Tacoma, 1 4Runner have had some kind of lift/leveling kit installed from new, by the dealership, wasn't a problem with any Toyota Care maintenance. May be a difference in dealerships though. BTW, the Bilstein 6112 front/ 5100 seems to be well liked amongst the 4Runner crew.
