Advice on Bilstein shocks

    I would like to install 5100 bilstein shocks on my 2019 4runner, and it has the kdss system, will a straight swap from my factory to the bilsteins be a better choice?

    Are you saying that you are going to change the rear shocks but not the coils?

    I have KDSS and have been running a 1.5 inch lift in the rear for over 100,000 miles now. No issues as of yet. In the front I had 6112's set to about 2.5 inches of lift, and now have OME MT64 and seem to have wound up with just a little more lift then I had with the Bilsteins.

    If you're just shopping for new shocks to replace your original shocks, the Bilstein 5100 may either be perfect, or overkill. They're perfect if you're doing anything off road short of rock-climbing, and overkill if you're just driving around town.

    My 2022 is 90% street with 5100s in the rear with T13 coils and 6112s in front with 2” lift and 600 lbs springs. Imo this is how they should have set it up from the factory. It is firm, not harsh, predictable and planted to the road and is comfortable on and off road.

    My 2011 has 5100s all around with 2” lift front on stock springs and stock rear coils with 1” poly spacer lift and is now driven 100% street by my 25 yr old son. He comments weekly how much he loves driving the 2011. I agree with him as that is how i drove it with that set up for the past 11 yrs.
