I would like to install 5100 bilstein shocks on my 2019 4runner, and it has the kdss system, will a straight swap from my factory to the bilsteins be a better choice?

Are you saying that you are going to change the rear shocks but not the coils?

I have KDSS and have been running a 1.5 inch lift in the rear for over 100,000 miles now. No issues as of yet. In the front I had 6112's set to about 2.5 inches of lift, and now have OME MT64 and seem to have wound up with just a little more lift then I had with the Bilsteins.

I'm just changing the front and rear shocks.

If you're just shopping for new shocks to replace your original shocks, the Bilstein 5100 may either be perfect, or overkill. They're perfect if you're doing anything off road short of rock-climbing, and overkill if you're just driving around town.

2” lift Bilstein 6112 w/600 lb coils front, 1.5” lift Eibach T13 coils rear, Bilstein 5100 rear shocks, TRD skidplate, TRD stainless catback w/black TRD side exhaust, TRD shifter handle, Weathertech bug deflector, 20% tint front, LED door bulbs, 285/70/17 Falken WP AT3, Energy Suspension front bumpstops, SSO Slimline Bumper w/ Badland Shackles, Durobumps 4.25” rear
My 2022 is 90% street with 5100s in the rear with T13 coils and 6112s in front with 2” lift and 600 lbs springs. Imo this is how they should have set it up from the factory. It is firm, not harsh, predictable and planted to the road and is comfortable on and off road.

My 2011 has 5100s all around with 2” lift front on stock springs and stock rear coils with 1” poly spacer lift and is now driven 100% street by my 25 yr old son. He comments weekly how much he loves driving the 2011. I agree with him as that is how i drove it with that set up for the past 11 yrs.

    Bilstein gets my vote.

My next mod I'm considering is suspension... My plan is to level the truck a bit with a slight lift. I'm considering the Bilstein 6112 for the front and 5160 for the back. Do you recommend I replace the Upper Control Arms for a small lift? I imagine with time I will want to raise it more. Truck is 2024 TRD ORP with no KDSS. Since it's still under warranty, I'd like to not push the envelope too much.

I'm mechanically inclined and would like to tackle the job myself - I'm not sure how hard it is. For reference, I did replace seized upper rear control arms on my old QX4, but this is the extent of suspension work I have done.

I have those shocks and struts. I would not (and didn't) replace the UCA with a small lift.

What are you hoping to improve upon by replacing the stock suspension?

I have the 5100’s all around on stock coils. .85 lift in the front, stock size BFG ko3’s. I really like the set up. It’s a little firmer, but feels planted on the road and no problems in sand, mud and snow and trail roads.
