    Hey guys,

Long time lurker and Tundra owner here in DFW. I’m looking at 2019 4RUNNER SR5 Premium 4X4 with a $41809 sticker.
I’ve read a lot of guys here getting amazing deals and would like to get your opinion on what would be a realistic price to offer the dealer to purchase the truck.

That's very similar to what the sticker was on mine, and I think I got it for $36 and change.

Hard to say, as purchase prices/availability vary a lot depending on region. My one size fits all rule of thumb is always this-- if you can get it for $1000-2000 under sticker you did alright (not including any factory rebates). At that price, you are doing ok and the dealer is doing ok.

Can you do better? Maybe. A lot of people do. But at that price, you're not getting screwed. Should you try to do better? Of course. Why not?

Keep in mind; at the beginning of a model year, in some areas they won't budge on msrp. In other areas they might discount $1000. At the end of a model year, those discounts might rise to $2000, depending on several variables.

If trading/financing a vehicle... it's more complicated. My advice above is just for an outright cash sale. It leaves the customer feeling good and the dealer makes a little money. My two cents.

Same as mine, but add running boards. I paid $36484 for my 2019 three weeks ago.

Boulder Toyota (Larry Miller) Boulder CO. They also gave me $27k for my low mileage ‘15 Tacoma, which they now have listed for $31k, which is only $400 less than I paid for it new!

Try Camelback Toyota and Earnhardt Toyota in AZ.

I totally agree with you. Dealers here act like they’re selling gold. I may have to go out of state anyway.

where I live Massachusetts $3K off the total sticker price is normal. some do get a bit more off , if its at the end of the month .
in California, they will add 2K on the sticker price or perhaps more.. no deals there.
in some states the prices are lower than $3k off the sticker price .. not sure what states will sell at the best deal.
some members do create confusion on the total cost of the purchase .. taxes/state local fees/registration costs etc etc...
4runners in my area do sell quickly .. if you go for a test drive up here good chance that runner you drove is sold when you bring it back to dealership. I had that happen ...

I got my '18 TRD offroad premium for $37,5 in Beaumont Texas. Bought new in September '18, I think you could get that number close to 36 as well.

Bought my 2018 premium in Jan 2018 for $36k + tax.
January is historically the lowest sales month for 4runners. This should work in your favor.

Tell them to take off the “distributor installed options”. You won’t want those carpeted floor mats and those bars/steps you can buy and install yourself for $350 if you don’t go for sliders.

Remember that location and size of the dealership largely influence costs, so saving are relative and cannot be a one to one relationship. However, I just saw a couple of 2019 TRD ORP's right at that price point. Also, the SR5 models are everywhere and some 2019's where priced right there too.

I'm at work and don't have it in front of me but I'd guess by memory around 4,500 off sticker. That's sticker then of course all the other $hit everyone pays, taxes, etc...I did have them install running boards which I think I paid 1/2 what they wanted. I told them I wanted the running boards thrown in or I'd walk and they literally said "bye" I did as good as I could on that given day. Vehicle's ok not my favorite ever but far from my worst.

So in Cali just priced a SR5 Premium and TRD Premium (I'm torn because I do have 3 little kids, but rarely used the 3rd row on my old car, and my wife has a 3rd row if anything...smh).

    SR5 Premium- $38.5k
    TRD Premium - $40.5k.

Think I can push that down im Cali (Roseville)

Sticker for SR5 P was like 40.5k. For the TRD P like 43.5k.

I've just seen some of these other state prices and am like wtf.

Hell no on that sticker price .. $40.5K .. yes other state dealerships do have a 3K lower sticker price .. now did they put on stupid add ons so they can put the screws on ya...? members in Cali sure have stated the dealership did put on customized parts and did the over charge game play..

my Toyota dealership does not change these until , you do the purchase , and then the add ons are part of the deal that you want ..
my add on was the clear plastic coat paint protection.. I did install the trail side rails myself saved $150..

If you're willing to put in the time and effort, you'll be able to save a few thousand more dollars if you buy in AZ. Do the deal online, take a one way flight there and drive it back. I mentioned a couple of dealerships in a post above if you're interested.

You'll have to get it smogged here in CA, fill out some DMV paperwork and have it inspected to register it in CA, but that's all fairly cheap. The taxes that you pay in AZ get transferred over to CA, so you won't have to pay anything extra unless the taxes you would have payed in CA are more. In the latter scenario, you would have to pay the difference. Shockingly enough, the tax rate in AZ (in the county I bought in ) was 8.6% and the rate in San Diego is 7.75%

I still came ahead by quite a bit buying out of state.

I was thinking of living in AZ .. I did love the hot weather and dry air.. well when I did the tax checks no not gonna live in AZ.. Cali that is the highest taxes total in the world .. now the state CA is gonna tax drinking water .. probably put a meter on your toilet .. every time you do a flush charge you $1 buck..

I ended up pulling the trigger on the SR5 Premium for $38.5, but it did come with a pretty good amount of extras: Power Tilt/Slide Moonroof w/Sunshade, Running Boards, SofTex-trimmed 50/50 Split Fold-Flat Third-Row Seating with Third-Row Curtain Shield Airbags, and Wilderness Package (all weather mats I believe)

I went with the SR5 b/c of the third row, and figure if I want to trick it out a bit later for off-roading, I can.

I want to get some wheels/tires first, and a cargo box. Thanks all.

California should tax tap water. So many people live here that we can't support them all with the amount of fresh water we have. Southern California has to import water from Northern California and the Colorado River just so everyone can water their lawns and play on pretty golf courses.......IN A DESERT!!!!

Maybe taxing water will help reduce some of the wasteful habits before we really dry up and start wars over water shortages.
