OK, silly first world problem just for fun. Last December we bought a slightly used Wind Chill Pearl 2024 Limited with only 1310 miles (and the moon roof) that we named "Moby Dick, the Great White Whale", for obvious reasons. Ungainly name, but still appropriate.

But, I am wavering on that name because my wife didn't originally buy into that it but finally accepted it and, wait for it, I just bought a 12" Stargazer cast iron skillet that came with an awesome sticker. I am thinking about putting that sticker on the aft side of the overhead console bezel under the moon roof handle to rebrand the truck and rename it the "Stargazer" because of the view from the moon roof, it rolls off the tongue more easily and it fits that location perfectly.

It is historically bad luck to rename a boat, but does that curse apply to a 4Runner? We are both inclined to giving our vehicles good names but I am conflicted and could regret this question. What say you? Calculated risk or forbidden fruit? Bring it on!

My girlfriend has a 2006* edit Honda pilot named Pete. Girlfriends sister has a Buick with the 3800 called “Bucky” lol, and recently when I bought my 24 runner, it was dubbed “frank the tank”

idk why we name our vehicles lol but it sticks

You're playing with fire. Moby Dick is the name, and Moby will be rightfully pissed if you change it.

I'm not going to comment on the luck part, but if you are going to rename a car from "Moby Dick, the Great White Whale", there is only ONE acceptable replacement:

    "Call me Ishmael"

Neither Neptune nor Poseidon care what a landlubber does with his weird horseless carriages.
As long as you, your wife and your 4Runner are OK with a new name, then the gods are OK with it too.

Putting a sticker inside a vehicle doesn't have to mean you are officially renaming it. It could refer to the occupant(s) also.

Interestingly, my 4Runner is also named Frank. Also endearingly referred to as the beluga (super white ORP).

I never name my vehicles but with my 4Runner i felt i needed to do so. So i had some names i went back and forth with for a few years till one just stuck and fit just right.

She is now named The Rocinante.

Which has a few different meanings to me, in music a movie and the original meaning.
