My moonroof mechanism on my 2022 ORP has failed. A few weeks back, I noticed more noise than usual, overhead, while driving down the highway (despite the daily roof rack noise.)

Upon inspection, I noticed the glass was displaced downward, though not low enough to slide into the headliner. No notice on the dash that the moonroof was open. When I used the button to raise it, it went back into place, but then when I turned the vehicle off, it notified me the moonroof was open.

I played with it a little more and what I have now is:

•when it’s up, it’s at half the height it should be.
•when it’s “closed” it the back edge sits 1” lower than the exterior of the roof.
•when it’s down, it can still move into the headliner.
•when I can settle it at the roofline, I get a warning when the vehicle is first opened or when the engine turns off, that the moonroof is open, but also, if any pressure is applied to the back edge of the glass, the seal is not tight.

In the meantime, I have it taped off with Vapor barrier (living in late-winter/early-spring Toronto means snow, sleet, and rain.)

Dealership couldn’t wrap their head around it, and have now said I have to remove my roof rack and leave it with them for at least a day to assess what’s going on.

Anyone ever deal with similar? What was the problem? How was it resolved?

    TIA

I would think the dealership would have already tried this, but there's a procedure to reset the windows and I assume there's a procedure similar to that to reset the moon roof. Essentially, it involves opening the window and holding the open button in that position for about 5 seconds, then completely closing the window and holding the close button in that position for about 5 seconds. But there are some nuances. If you Google it or consult your owners manual you should come up with info on resetting the windows. I would try that same trick with the moonroof to see if that does anything.

Thanks for the suggestion. When I’ve got a few clear days in the forecast, I’ll give it a shot.

I'd be really surprised if this works. Your only real fix is going to be difficult. This involves removing the headliner and repairing/replacing the offending mechanism. The reason the dealer wanted you to remove the roof rack is exactly this. It needs to be taken out from the top, but all bolts are accessible only from the inside. Unfortunately, probably not a cheap fix.

Here's my situation and all the experience/info I have to offer... In the last 3 years, my moonroof has intermittently had issues. It will just *click click* in the overhead controller console with no motor sound at all. Usually, it worked, but sometimes it seemed sluggish, so I cleaned and lubed the track at one point. Then, three days ago, it got stuck open, which is bad news in Kansas. I took the negative terminal off the battery, waited, and put it back on, but no luck. Then I disconnected the battery again, took down the overhead console, and unplugged-replugged everything inside there. Fortunately, I was able to unplug and replug the fuse (25A, which looked to be in great shape), and that unplug-replug automatically triggered the "relearn" process, which ended with my moonroof closed (yay!). However, after the relearn, I immediately tried to open it, but it would not go. So, my curiosity continued, and I reset the fuse again, but there was no dice on any movement at all. Ultimately, I'm glad it didn't get restuck open, and I would've laughed at my stupidity if it had, but I haven't touched it since then because I can't risk it getting stuck open.

Anyway, I'm not trying to hijack the @glantzy thread here. Just putting some more puzzle pieces on the table. It may be worth checking your fuse box under the parking brake. It's easy enough to find the right one, but I assume you're under warranty so the situation is different than mine.
