This may sound rather odd, but I am considering using my roof rack for an archery shooting platform. Simply put, stand up there and shoot from a slightly elevated position. We have a couple very small hills I can park on the top of adding a few more feet. Is it elevated enough to make a difference? Not really sure. I am trying to practice from a bit of elevation, but my Archery range will not allow a stand or saddle.
There is a company that makes a full “webbed” platform for the Pro’s rack. Can it hold sub 200lbs ? I know the factory states much less with supplied bars. I am around 180lbs.
I assume I would need a ladder other than the platform. Any ideas? Or comments? Should I wait until my caffeine kicks in and rethink all of this lol?

I did receive all the center RCI skid plates and Rocksliders. I also received the Victory 4x4 stealth number and Baja light bar. She will be a good slightly overbuilt hunting rig!!

Rack companies, including OEM are always going to err on the side of caution, and civil liability, when it comes to weight restrictions. Keep in mind they are also basing that off dynamic load, not static. I've never had the TRD Pro racks, but if they can't withstand a 180lb person standing on them, I'd be shocked. I've stood on the roof of my truck itself, while installing racks before. You'd be just fine doing it. I'd be more concerned with safety issues of getting up and down with a bow and quiver. More importantly, I'm not sure that little difference in elevation would help, like you said.

I just turned 49 going on 29 so not too concerned about the safety aspect lol. I am still semi invincible. I think if I can get on a hill and get another 5 ft more it should work. Of course ultimately I am looking for 15ft or more, but 10ft would be better than zero feet. I even offered to help build an elevated platform, but the range said no way. Yet, they have no issue if I stand on my vehicle or even build a tower on top of it lol.
Anyway, I will continue to think about it. I will find the link for the platform eventually and post it. Looks pretty nice.

Lol, that depends I guess. Just trying to figure this out. Practicing from elevated position for my whitetail hunting.

Bow hunting from atop a vehicle that reeks of fumes? Even if in a blind.

LOL, that would be convenient. Shooting from an elevated position while in odd positions is excellent practice for whitetail hunting.
Tree stand and/or saddles is where it is at. I like to practice as I haven’t taken too many shots out there that I was perfectly positioned. Usually twisted or contorted while up 15 feet or more. Obviously, to try and be as ethical as possible, I feel I owe it to the animal to “have been in that position before”.

I don't believe, in my state at least, that hunting from a vehicle is allowed. If you were sitting on the rear bumper and shooting you'd be in violation.

    Better check your laws...

I am speaking of target practice at my local archery range.
I hunt spot and stalk, hunt from a tree stand, and a saddles. I have made some ground blinds before.

I don't bow hunt but I do understand that practice from an elevated platform is desirable due to arrow trajectory. But, wouldn't practice from an actual tree stand be more beneficial due to becoming use to it's limited area and obstructions?

100% definitely. I have no place to hang a stand to practice on a regular basis where I live. That’s the whole problem. The range has plenty of places, but they won’t allow me. Although I love my house, I am in a pretty congested area and do not really have a tree to hang a stand in. Not without people calling the cops on me lol.
