What have you done to your 4th Gen 4Runner today?

Will do, for sure! I'm hoping I can get to these one of these weekends... I'll post up results when I get to them. How do you feel the"new designed" UBJs are?

 

Today I installed Trail Runner Customs’ LED fog lights. I couldn’t be happier with the build quality, easy installation, performance, and even the presentation. Came with a thank you note, QR links to an installation video, and some Trail Runner gear. Very impressive.





The lights are marked with the side they go on.



The fit is perfect. Installation took less than 30 minutes.

Installed an aFe prefilter today. I drive on a lot of dirt roads so I’m hoping this helps to keep things a little cleaner

 

These Trail Runner Customs fogs are legit. Pattern looks a little skewed but that’s b/c of the angle and the curve.

 

Finally got my BD squadron r lights into my bumper housing they are hella bright

 

I have the same CAI and wanted to know if your heatshield around the box has shown any improvement?

 

I noticed the other day that intake temps were right around ambient temps. But I think that benefit came from relocating the MAF sensor. This is sound deadener so I don’t think it’s doing much for heat, but it does seem to help with the intake noise.

 

You’re fine at 216. I thought I had a chart of the operating range but I can’t find it at the moment. I remember being worried that mine hit 230 while towing in the mountains and being pleasantly surprised that the acceptable temp was above that.

 

245F and above for an extended amount of time starts wearing the fluid down...if you tow often every year, just drain and flush each year. Nice work pulling that beast! Your truck is a beast!

 

Here’s one ive been referencing from the trans cooler bracket manufacturer. The 216 was also with a 35mph headwind lol. It was a bit of a slog to maintain speed and try not to run up the trans temp. Now that I have a dipstick on the trans ill definitely change it more often

Thanks man! That’s the new plan. Its due for another flush as i only changed about 5qts recently and i don’t think it’s ever been serviced prior.

 

Started the 4Runner up after work and the check engine and VSC lights came on. Looked up the codes on my ultra gauge and P0051 showed. I cleared it and it came back on like 10 minutes later.

looks to be Bank 2 O2 sensor… should I just buy a Denso one from rockauto? I heard this bank is the easier one to replace.

 

Try swapping the rear o2 sensors side to side and see if the code follows before buying a new one

 

I mean I don’t necessarily mind buying one I believe these are the originals with 256k on them. If they are easy to replace I’d do them all. So there are 4 total?

 

Yes there are four total. The front ones are your Air Fuel Ratio sensors and are quite a bit more pricey than the rears. The rears monitor the front set of catalytic converters.

 

Is the P0051 for one of the fronts?

 

Yes, that is for Bank 2 sensor 1. So driver side AFR sensor

 

Sorry I read your original message quickly and just noticed you only said bank 2 and not bank 2 sensor 2. P0051 should be Bank 2 sensor 1

 

Rockauto has Denso downstream sensors for like $45/ea. they also have an “upstream” one for the same, but then there is a Delphi upstream A/F one listed for $147.

no other sensors in their list are that expensive.

 

Is your 4R a v8 or v6? Id look for an upstream denso sensor if they have one

ive noticed some other brands are more pricey than denso, but i always try to go with denso. They have never let me down

 

It’s a v8. Ya weird the only one that actually states Air Fuel is the Delphi one.

Yeah they’re kind of interchangeable terms but that upstream one for ~$43 is the one id go with. Im surprised theyre around the same price

 

I was going to do rockauto, but before I bought them I was able to get the same parts price matched by my local O Rileys and not have to wait for Rockauto to ship. Check with your nearest o rileys for a price match before placing your order

 

I will order 2 of the Denso 2344138 upstream sensors and 1 each of the rear Denso sensors and just get them all done.

Has anyone in here had issues with their fuel gauge reading wrong? I filled up with 21.1 gallons the other day and my gauge was still reading 1/4. This was a huge red flag, the gas light should have been on already for a while.

im glad i didn’t run out, i didn’t expect to get 6.94mpg lol. That 35mph headwind and a trailer is hard on the mpgs.

Anyways, i think i remember reading about someone replacing the sending unit and that fixing it. Just looking for someone who has had this issue, and what the fix was. Mine still has the original fuel pump, so when i replace that, i’d like to have my ducks in a row to try and solve the gauge issue while im already in there

 

I just did this a couple months back in my tundra and I bought an OEM used ine oneBay and swapped it out and adjusted the float lever and now all works well...this would be the time to update to a new pump if one had desires...no need tho.

 

Thanks for the info! I’ve been mulling over turbocharging this thing since i have quite a few parts laying around, so an upgraded fuel pump might be in my future..
