Anyone do this? Any pros or cons? I couldn’t get my hands on a new TRD Offroad but snagged a SR-5. Really just want the rear locking diff. Thinking about going complete third member swap and regrading to 4.56 gears as well.

    Any input is appreciated

Sounds like a great idea. Honestly, the only thing really worth having on the TRDs is the locker. Nice thing about an aftermarket one is you're not limited to any factory parameters, you can use it whenever you want. Lock the rear in 2wd and have some fun in the snow, haha.

What size tires are you running that you want 456 gears?

Cons would be that re-gearing and adding a locker will probably void some of your warranty.

You would need to regear the front diff too if you change the gear ratio.

If they were going to regear one without telling you it's required to do both, I'd run from that shop.

Does an aftermarket locker mess with the atrac system?

A few years ago I thought about getting a locker on my SR5. After doing a bit of wheeling and snow driving, I realized A-TRAC was all I needed. Check my avatar.

@Stoney Ranger I checked your avatar but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be seeing. Looks like a 4Runner?

I can't tell by the pic, do you have 4.56 or a locker?

No, because the locker prevents a tire from spinning, so it never tries to activate due to tire speed differential.

That is assuming the locker is "locked"....

With it unlocked, ATRAC will function as normal.
