Hey everyone, My name is Todd. I have a 1996 4runner and I would like help replacing the rear axle housing. I have replaced the seals in the left rear axle 4 times and it will not stop leaking. So, I bought a 1997 rear axle housing complete from a junk yard. It looks the same but with no rust, where mine is rusted badly. It was a 2 wheel dr as well, so I think all is good. Is there any diagrams to tell me what control arms or bushings I need to replace?

Thanks in advance for the guidance.

    Welcome!

Because it’s a fairly old (years) model, I would consider any bushing/rubber/plastics around the rear end to be ‘consummable’ and therefore should be replaced. Consider replacing any rusted bolt/nut and perhaps chase some threads while you’re at it.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Are you using the internals from the rear you're trying to stop leaking? Just in case you're not, are the gear ratios the same? As far as control arms and/or bushings, inspect them, if they are solid you're probably good to go.
